Good vid. His hair is marvelous. Now i want him to do this with the X as well. The X seems like the best console build ever made, so it would interesting to compare the thermals.

Yes can’t wait for the series x test. It looks like some of the ps5 memory modules are running hot.

It’s almost 100C when you add 4-5C real temp inside memory module silcon. Thermal limit for GDDR6 is 100C.

Can it be why PS5's are constantly crashing?

The vent needs to be hot as it shows heat is getting out.

Wonder if Series X vent is hot enough to show that.

For reference, Micron rates its GDDR5, GDDR5X and GDDR6 memory chips with a Maximum Junction Temperature (TJ Max or Tjunction Max) of 100C (degrees Celsius). The typical recommended operating temperatures ranges between 0C to 95C. The reading materials on Micron's GDDR6X don't reveal the TJ Max for the new memory chips so there's still a bit of mystery to the topic. According to Igor, the general consent is around 120C before the GDDR6X chips suffer damage. This would mean that the Tjunction value should be set at 105C or up to 110C.

Yeah. Anyone who builds PCs can tell straight away that the PS5 is not thermally optimally designed, hence the necessity of that fancy liquid thermal interface material. I expect some future hardware revisions to mitigate this issue.

And yeah, would be nice to see some tests on the Series X as well. Knowing what I know, I would expect it to do better than the PS5.

Just watched this. SOC thermals seem fine but the memory thermals are pretty bad. Seems the side panels restrict air flow and taking both off definitely help improve temps. Thermal contact to the memory modules needs improvement. Fan is quiet overall with headroom to increase the speed and help with air flow.

Just like with the PS4 pro it seems like it's best to wait for upgrades to the cooler.

Without the side panels 5C cooler on the mem module. Side panels with fins should help.

Yikes. There are so many red flags in the design of this system at this point, from both a hardware and a software standpoint. It needed more time in the oven I think

I told these Sony bum's here this design was bad thought through and they used case temps from a thermal camera to say XSX was hotter.

Sony had to go liquid metal here, 70c on the SOC from a brand new setup with no use... No wonder they put vacuum holes in the design, without them and liquid metal this thing would be hitting 80c with ease.

Horrible one fan design with trapped air due to no ventilation, Good job Sony.

This is why I like Gamer Nexus. Sometimes he throws a bit too much at you, but here he gives a brutally honest review of the thermals and we don't get much of that when it comes to hardware.

The memory may not be going over manufacturer temp limits but it's running too close to those limits which isn't great.

Other than that, Sony seems to have delivered a super quiet, power-efficient system. I'm sure we're going to see improvements listed here in the "Slim" PS5 model.

I just watched this he mentions at the end that they could help offset the heat by ramping up the fan as it has more room to run faster.

But then they would get noise complaints

Sony did say they'd be able to adjust fan curves in future updates. Looks like this was the reason. If they determine that memory temps are getting too hot for certain games, they'll increase the fan speeds. Really though, the PS5 is ridiculously quiet so they have plenty of room to work with if they had to.

I like Gamer Nexus and all but the problem with Steve's view is, that he believes that 80% of his viewers will change CPU, Motherboards etc.. every 2 to 3 years. I think that 80% of PC gamers are thinking to keep new PC's for more than 5 years, maybe changing GPU only. I am by no means of a PC Enthusiast, I like to keep my parts more then the average 5-10 years if possible but I do upgrade my CPU/GPU when the time is right.

PS5 cooling & power power efficient is fine indeed, I'd be surprise Sony could improve it from the Slim/Pro versions 3/4 years from now.

I've been changing my motherboard/CPU/GPU every 2-5 years depending on the market. My last GPU upgrade was about two years ago and it wasn't the top of the line then. So after 2 years either the RX 6800 XT or the RTX 3080 will be a huge bump for me. If not, I'd wait another year.

He was saying in his 3080 review that even 980 Ti owners shouldn't upgrade yet unless they're unhappy with performance, and I think he himself is using a pretty old PC at home. I have no idea where you're getting that idea from.

Fantastic news! I hope it's also capable of burning some things around it. Not the whole room or house but maybe some flooring.

Please STOP BUYING PS5S! Can't you see how dumb their engineering/design team are? Stop supporting this.

I hope this spreads on social media faster. I hope there are more broken units so people would stop botting the damned thing.

He hasn't been able to get a Series X yet. He said he would do one if he could get one soon (if he cant get one for a long time then it sounds like he wont bother)
