PS2 was basically a Genesis and Super Nintnendo wrapped into one console. It was that awesome. I really liked the XBox for Gen6 as well, but anyone who didn't have a PS2 was just living in the wilderness back in that gen. PS2 was the essential console.
Yet the best games that gen weren't found on it. Metroid Prime, Pikmin, Ninja Gaiden Black, Halo CE. All arguably better than any single game the PS2 had exclusively to it. It just had so many good games that it's hard not to favor it.
Agreed. The best games were on Gamecube and Xbox. What exactly does PS2 have? I am not calling it a bad console--I quite like it in ways--but when you break down as to why go back to it? All the sports games have evolved, its got no fps games really, its got the worst versions of fighting games.........................................its got rpgs I guess? A few action games? People always bring up the massive library and while it was big, the console was also the king of shovelware.
Dreamcast has stronger exclusives. As does Sega Saturn and Nintendo 64.

The GTA games sucked on consoles back then. Control, framerate--the ps2 in particular had the murkiest visuals to grace a console. Foggy, choppy, and interaled.
It's definitely the most overrated console, that's for sure. It wasn't even the best from it's generation, let alone all time. I'd put Xbox, Gamecube and Dreamcast ahead of the PS2.

Just pointing out that the good majority of the people on these boards, and working for most gaming publications started gaming on either the PS, N64 or the PS2, so those are generally the go to consoles. People seem to forget that there was a whole gaming industry before that time frame. Anyway no matter what, my point still stands. Best Selling console...PS2. Best console....opinion.

Cool opinion but its all that it is: YOUR opinion. Most of those games say nothing to me and many other and some other you mentioned (RE CV, RE4, Virtua Tennis, Viewtiful Joe) CAN be played on the PS2 and they played just fine (I know cause I have them)

None of those titles come close to the best what PS2 got. What does Shenmue do that surpasses anything the PS2 has? Honestly, I'd like to know. Because it's a clunky mess nowadays. The same isn't true for GoW 1/2, Shadow Of The Colossus, Klonoa 2, Jak and Daxter, Up your Aresonal, Twisted Metal Black. All of which hold up today far better than Shenmue does. In fact, Jet Set Radio does.
Dreamcast was a good system for the time it was on the market. But please cut the shit and think about things for a second. The PS2 had droves upon droves of quality games. The best games it offered held up much more than Shenmue or Sonic Adventure. Sonic Adventure is a trully shit game to be honest. Controls like shit. Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank schooled it every day of the week.
The Dreamcast gets the MJ treatment where everyone worships it once it dies and nothing comes close to it according to them. There is a religious cult following for it and it's actually pretty fucking creepy the way people defend it. The PS2 destroyed the Dreamcast. It also destroyed any console in that generation regardless of Metroid Prime and Ninja Gaiden Black existing elsewhere at the time. It's the quality of the quantity it had.
Complicated if you allow handhelds, as GBA, DS and 3DS are all great systems
PS2 got EVERY multiplat game and its popularity meant that it got ports of big games from other systems, most of which run perfectly (e.g. Resi 4, Viewtiful Joe)

While I agree no PS2 game was touching Metroid Prime, it had so many great games that gen it made the other consoles look anemic. You are just listing games in hopes people will just accept that those games are objectively better than what PS2 got. But when others list PS2 games, you say it's a weak list. Ever thought it just wasn't the console for you? Or would you rather convince other people of it?

And Twisted Metal Black destroys Demolition Racer. Dreamcast doesn't really have many games that aren't arcade ports or what weren't ported to some other platform in the future. If you perfer those titles then fine. That's your opinion. But Dreamcasts library doesn't come close to the PS2's don't lie to yourself.

Come on now, pls don't even try to compare the N64 (the start of Nintendo console empire btw) to the PS2. Although I agree N64 had great games, but even the N64 was nothing in comparison to PS1, let alone the PS2.
It was the best back then, but I think the GC has aged much better. But I like nowadays the number of awesome games you can get for under $10 for PS2, it's got everyone else beat in that department.
