Wooot!

Ever since I heard they hired one of Civ 5's lead dev, I just KNEW Stardock would be working on Galactic Civ 3.

Galactic Civ 2 was probably one of the deepest, more amazing 4X strategy games out there, with some of the best AI that has ever been featured in the genre. I have really high hopes for this.

Website: http://www.galciv3.com/

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owdjizoiqVY

The game is 64 bit only as well, implying a large memory footprint! Huge galaxies? Lots of AI? No load times? Awesome!

@John_Matherson: PC also does the better version of 99% of console games.

This isn't about that, and you know it, which makes you look rather pathetic.

Strategy games are also awesome. I'd take Galactic Civ 3 over a thousand Beyond: Two bluray movies, any day fo the mother f'ing week, thank you very much.

@clyde46: Galactic Civ 2 was turned based, much like the Civilization games. I don't know if this one will incorporate rela time battle elements or not.

@clyde46:

The actual gameplay was turn based while the battles took place in a very enjoyable real-time cinematic mode (you had no control of your ships). I highly doubt the third installment would stray from this form

GalCiv2 was a favorite for a long time. Stardock actually gave a crap about it's player base. Before long I was asking, "Master of Orion who?"

Truly the pinnacle of 4X strategy gaming. Sadly I will be poor for a long time even when I start my new career after graduating college here shortly (paying off student loans, rent, car insurance, etc.). If this gets a console release I will cream my pants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe someone can answer my Q: Are the Galactic Civilizations games similar in gameplay to Endless Space?

Loved Endless Space.

PC has more genres than consoles when looking at its library for any given gen.

Wow. Strategy genre is really doing well recently. One time many were like "Strategy genre" is dying, but now it´s thriving as never before.

It's a PC strategy game from StarDock. It's not going to be on consoles.

They're pretty similar. I like Gal Civ 2 more than Endless Space though. Stardrive is similar too but it's realtime.

In many ways, yes!

There are no "warp lanes" like in Endless Space, the whole galaxy is open to you from the start (though you'll likely need to research technology to reach distant locaitons or maybe find wormholes). But the overall gameplay is very similar. You start out wiht a single colony and you expand from there. Trading, conquering your way through the galaxy.

The only other major difference is that Galactic Civ's cultural and diplomatic gameplay is a lot deeper than in Endless Space, and in GC3 you'll be able to create ANY type of ship you want, not just customize a particular hull type like in ES.

I loved ES a lot too, but I expect GC3 to be a heck of an improvement over it.

Too many games!

Not enough time!

Every week some new game is announced that I MUST HAVE. Meanwhile, I have a backlog of games I haven't even bought yet.

It's not fair!

@Kinthalis: Thanks man, sounds really good. I'll keep an eye out on Steam/GOG for GC1, and Steam alone for GC2.

Yep, that is the only way a strategy game thread can get any posts and last a little before it gets to page two. I'm basically doing the three guys that care a favor by pointing out how it really is.

Why does it seem all these same type come out so close to each other. I was going to dabble in the space sim genre, so I am trying to get pumped about X-Rebirth... then I hear about Star Citizens... now its Gal Civ 3.

Same thing happened with Outlast. We go all this time without a new survivor horror game, then boom Outlast and Amnesia drop within 2 days of each other.

And I'll never forget the Skyrim release window. Skyrim, Dark Souls, Kingdom of Alomar, Zelda Skyward Sword all drop within a month.

I realize they are not the same games exactly... but they are all going for the same audience. It feels like feast or famine sometimes.

@enzyme36: I don't see X:Rebirth and GalCiv 3 as necessarily going for the same audience... One is pure strategy, the other is more simulation.

You might be right though, as I'm looking forward to both :)

Pc is a sophisticated platform for sophisticated games. Consoles will never have the same intellectual reach.

You should probably be admiring it rather than attempting to scorn it. Practically every console game is passive entertainment in comparison.

Too much for that infantile mind of yours to understand, eh?

Don't worry about it. Stick to the genres that don't require you to use it. ;)

there's a huge amount of variety in "strategy" games. lumping them together shows that you don't know what you're talking about.

Don't post this news in system wars then. The fact that the response he gave is the only one consolites bring up just shows how great PC gaming is.
