http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/05/01/first-look-at-project-cars-on-ps4/

Apparently it's still 1080p60. While the car models and shading look fantastic, the environments in Project Cars are usually pretty inconsistent even on the PC.

Still, if Project CARs can do 1080p60, I wonder what DriveClub is doing that it can't. My guess is the environments are far more detailed in DriveClub.

Also if you look at these things in their full size you can see some jaggied edges and whatnot, stuff that I usually don't see in PC screens. These came from the Playstation Blog on the Playstation Blog's Flickr account and the post was made by the Creative Director of the game. No reason to believe these aren't PS4 pictures.

And this just proves it, you don't need a $2000 PC to have real-life-like graphics, a $400 PS4 can do the same and no one will notice the jaggies when you're sitting on a couch.

I've been looking forward to this ever since I played it. This might be the game that will urge me to get a next gen console.

Looks great but i can't help but feel the game is only ever mentioned for it's graphic. Does it do anything new for gameplay or the single or multiplayer modes?

I'm sure it'll be a solid racer but i can't help but feel it's falling into the Crysis trap of being mediocre in everything but graphics.

@arabi_89: Not every aspect. The environments are generally very inconsistent and the game has a much smaller collection of cars/tracks than Forza or GT. They have a lot more detail in the car model and physic simulation though, but Project CARs is a sim first and a game second. This is going to make it not as fun for a lot of people who prefer more sim-light experiences like Forza.

Gran Truismo is a good example of a game that tries to be a sim first and a game second. It's consistently not as fun or fully featured as Forza which is much more of a game first.

The good news is that Project CARS supports Sony's VR Headset. That's going to go a long way to making the sim more fully realized on the PS4. The PC version already supports the Oculus Rift.

@Wasdie: it will be interesting to see GT on ps4, it maybe just like the games before with standard and premium cars and people are bored of this! trust me a good game trailer with great graphics will push sales for racing games.

@FreedomFreeLife: If you don't think those screens look good you're just being willfully ignorant. There comes a point where graphics are just good and Project CARS is there.

Let's not be ignorant and shallow.

Seems like they have high hopes for this game. Almost like they are expecting this to be the new GT since they take forever to make games.

I'm impressed so far.

@Wasdie: The one thing that really amazes me about those screenshots is the grass. I have yet to see grass in a video game look like that. If those are PS4 pics than I'm sold. I really have so much respect for the devs for working very hard to produce the visuals that we want. It has been along time but video games have finally started to give us that feeling of real life. And I heard some audio footage of this game and I have to say it sounded very real.

Before clicking on this thread i expected a lot of jaggies like 95% of racing games have. I r surprised that it looks sharp for once OR its yet more bullshots.

Those shots rival PC shots

Model, shading, and lighting wise there won't be much of a difference for a long time. The PS4 can do 95% of the rendering techniques a PC can. The PC has the advantage of being able to do more rendering passes at a much higher framerate and resolution. This brings out detail much better and gives an overall better picture quality.

The PS4 and Xbox One can pump out a lot of polygons and have really high resolution textures but when it comes to lighting/shading they get easily outclassed by PC hardware. Games on the consoles can still look great (better than a lot of people give them credit) but the shear amount of power that your average gaming rig has will not be matched by stagnant and aging hardware.

@silversix_: If you look at their full size you can see jaggied edges. I doubt on a 1080p TV at 60fps you'll notice them much though.

I'm not 100% sure. I'm assuming it's really a pure sim since it's not some big AAA budget game which is trying to make a huge profit. CARS stands for community assisted racing sim and they've been working with the community and backers who give them money to help them develop the game since 2011. I think it's really a pure sim, something none of the consoles have ever really had.

Also, will Project CARS be the final name ? I always assume something that is called Project is just a temporary name :p

Slightly Mad Studios previous games were also sims, but they allowed options for the more casual racer or sim light racer to be more correct. I assumed this one will be too.

I still want to try the game out, but I'm not too big a pure sim racing fan.

The screens are great, no denying that.

The only thing I dislike is the "gloss" given to the finish of every single vehicle in modern racing games. If they are shooting for true realism this effect needs to be toned down, sure it makes for great car porn, but to me it removes a level of realism.

Still...im waiting for the game that makes me feel the need to drop monies on the PS4....maybe this could be it.

The idea is the game is never done being developed. Constant patches, content updates and expansions. It's a constant project whose sole existance is to fill the racing sim niche that exists out there in the market. It's being developed just for those kind of people, not really for general gamers.

They want to hit all the platforms they can because options are never a bad thing. Some hardcore racing sim fans would probably love to play the game but don't want to invest the time or money into a gaming rig and would rather just set up a game console and play on that. The dev knows that and is accommodating.

I agree 100%. Cars are too shiny. It looks great in screenshots but it's not that realistic and realism is the point. I would love to see cars get progressively dirtier and loose that sheen.

Well if Devs don't set a 60fps target they will most likely end up adding to much detail and end up 30fps or unlocked fps. Like what Respawn said about developing for Titanfall, they set out for 60fps right from the start

Game looks great but honestly Drive Club looks better to me.

Loading Video...

Yeah yeah I know 30fps but damn it is gorgeous and PGR on 360 was 30fps too, it's arcade after all and looks fun a hell.

You can definitely some jags but models, lighting and environments all look amazing.

I'll still be getting it on PC - 1440p, no jags, 120hz, 120 faps
