I've been playing Resident Evil Revelations on 3DS with the CPP and have been getting into it a lot. I first played it when it was released back in 2012 but I like it a lot more this time around, maybe my tastes just changed I don't really know.

Though I am enjoying it a lot and would score it atleast 8.5-9 I can't help but remember how awesome Resident Evil 4 was. I played the Gamecube version not to long ago and I just loved the crap out of it. The story was intact, the enemies were fun and diverse, it did have some eerie horror themes definitely and Leon is a true Capcom man. And anyone who knows the "safe-zone" theme where there is usually a save point knows how great that song is, I'll never forget the change from such a dramatic intense mood that flows into a comforting tune.

I don't have much experience out side of those games and I would like to know your preferences and favorite games in the Resident Evil series. Thanks

Resident Evil Remake (Gamecube) is my favorite. Massive fan service and a testament to how remakes should be done. After 12 long years of waiting I'll finally be able tp play it on a PlayStation as of next year.

Other favorites include:

RE4, RE5, Outbreak, RE2 and RE Code Veronica.

Resident evil remake - the ultimate resident evil game, takes the first masterpiece and overhauls it's graphics to a standard that still look pretty today, and it made some good game play changes. The crimson heads were a challenging addition.

Resident evil

Resident evil 3 nemesis

Resident evil 2

Resident evil code veronica

Resident evil 0

Apart from those games, the rest of the series was either experimental ideas that didn't work (survivor, outbreak) or trash( resident evil 4 onwards)

Resident evil 4 wasn't bad actually, but it'd genre shift was the beginning of the end of resodent evil as a survival horror franchise

I had such an amazing experience with the first game, but the second game was mind blowing. Everything a sequel should be. The first two, imo, are in a whole different league then followed by Code Veronica. Not sure why RE3 didn't resonate that well--perhaps my interest just started to go towards something else.

I am surprised by the amount of people putting up the REmake of the first one. Did that many people miss out on the initial release? To me the mystery, intrigue, and freight were all such a big part of the experience...

Funny enough the majority of people here are responding with the sloppy mechanics and unbearable static shots as their favorites in the series... If you just started gaming with PS2 I can understand why you would think 4 is the best.

Resident Evil 4 was the only good one. Before 4 the games had terrible gameplay mechanics and after 4 the games stopped being survival horror.

Exactly

The appeal of the Resident Evil franchise to me was that it was a survival horror zombie game. Resident Evil 4, while not a bad game, completely steered the series in a new direction which I'm not a fan of.

It got rid of zombies in favor of crazed villagers with plants popping out of their heads and changed the series into more of a 3rd person action shooter. Ammunition and weapons were plentiful. Instead of having to conserve ammo and basically being forced to run for your life at certain times.

Didn't play the remake. The third game was the most memorable for me, because it had Nemesis. You were always on edge for when he would appear next. I liked that. Worst game was without a doubt the 6th one. I liked Resident Evil 4 a lot aswell, even tho that is when the series went a different direction. The rest of the classic games are a tie for me, with the second game probably having an edge.

Also, Resident Evil 2, 3 and Veronica X is a huge trip down memory road for me. I had a friend who lived around the block that was a huge Resident Evil fan, so we played those games to death.

Wow there's a lot of love for Resident Evil 1/Remake!

I have like no experience with the early games other than I think Resident Evil 0 on Gamecube? Ah it's been so long I can't remember.

But I understand how people feel about RE4 being heavy on the action elements. But I wouldn't say I could just fire off bullets at anytime, the game was quite hard at times. I remember switching to all my weapons one after another and reloading to make sure I had a full clip whenever I switched to that item, and I felt like I had to do that to progress honestly.

But in contrast I know that Revelations had more of the emphasis on horror and I will admit ammo conservation plays a bigger part in that one. With what limited knowledge I have of the early games I'm pretty sure Revelations was supposed to take influence from those games, or the roots of the series anyway.

Resident Evil 4, definitely. It was absolutely perfect--the ideal blending of action and survival horror. Capcom just took it a little too far with the over-the-top action in Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6. The Resident Evil remake for Gamecube is the second best. Best atmosphere in a mature rated game ever made, I think.

Guess I'll rank the ones I have played:

7) Resident Evil 5

6) Resident Evil 6

5) Resident Evil 3

4) Resident Evil 2

3) Resident Evil: Revelations

2) Resident Evil Remake

1) Resident Evil 4

I have also played RE0, but not enough to place it on the list.

I just answered this a month ago with a list. I also recently re-beat these games. I enjoy the RE games.

I'll just quote something I enjoyed that I'm guessing will be overshadowed by RE4/REmake:

President Evil 4 was just as action heavy as President Evil 5.

Resident evil 4 had enough action to keep me happy but it was not as action heavy as 5, definitly not ,and i played and unlocked every Extra on both games.

Saying that, REmake was the last resident evil game that actually felt like a resident evil game, 4, 5 and 6 are great games in there own Right but they just ain't resident evil games in anything more than name and characters.

@Lulu_Lulu: I just can't agree. Sure, RE4 had a lot of action, and it's what I remember/love it for. But the atmosphere was haunting, and there were more than a few moments of eeriness that rivaled anything from previous installments. RE5 on the other hand had way more enemies, an environment that did not instill a sense of dread as in RE4, and the co-op implementation was also awful. It's Rambo Evil, not Resident Evil of old, or even RE4. RE4 walked a thin line between action and horror, but the following games (except for Revelations) went overboard.
