Favorite Flops Volume I

What do you vote for in this episode of Favorite Flops?

My vote for tonight goes to Too Human for Xbox 360. I remember lems hyping this game like crazy back in 2007-2008. There was a planned trilogy with an estimated budget of $60-$100 million. Worst yet, the game had been in development hell for 10 years. Then it scored a 5.5 on Gamespot and SW went up in flames. On top of all that, the developer tried to sue Epic Games and lost. And now they owe Epic Games millions of dollars. And then the game had to be pulled from Xbox Live. Pretty bad.

What about you, SW? What gets your vote?

As in SW flops, or general flops? In terms of SW, it's probably TLoU. As for general flop... I'm not sure.

I'm not sure what Nier was hyped, but a 5/10 probably wasn't expected.

TLoU was pretty funny, but my favorite was watching The Order flop, that was epic. I can still taste the tears.

I'm curious how it even comes close to being "epic". Everyone and their mothers knew the game would rate badly. the only thing people talked about was the graphics, which were praised.

I loved Too Human! BC request coming up for that game!

As for recent flops it is hard to top TLOU, DriveClub or Teh Order. Always count on Sony for flops on a grand level.

@soulitane: Before it was reviewed Sony fans hyped it as the best thing since slice bread, they even stated it was a console seller, and funniest part was even after it flopped they still joked that it would sale like hotcakes, boy were they ever wrong. If you listen closely at night, you can still hear the Sony fans claiming its greatness.

No they didn't. Literally only a select few hyped the game.

For how Bungie was hyping Destiny, a 6/10 is a major flop.

@silversix_: Didnt Sony support that one also? They have some bad luck. If im not mistaken Driveclub was a major flop also.

Nope, the game was never hyped, or at least not in the lead up to launch. You can believe what you want, but what I said is a fact.

Knack was a good flop also, i remember them Sony fans claiming it to be the next Crash Bandicoot, boy were they in for a surprise on that one.

Im sorry, i was just wanting you to follow the Sony tears, i thought it would be more fun. While your at it, check out the LBP3 failure, that was some funny flopping also, although i feel bad for that one, i get weak in the knees thinking about all them children that were let down.

Why do you care so much? Are you feeling butthurt because the Order WAS hyped then flopped hard? Are you trying to save cows faces even if it's a tad bit late for that?

Let it go amigo. Cows hype all Sony exclusives to the high heavens outside of the official hype threads.

Did you know that they originally gave Shenmue a score under 7.0 (I think it was 6.8)? They actually went back and changed it after so much backlash.

TLOU was a great flop.

So it's just another get together thread for the lems I see.

Easily the Master Chief Collection, that 6/10 was just absolutely glorious.

8.8, but 8.9 would have been just as bad.

Different times man. Yes, tenths of a point were serious fucking business. Anything below a 9 for a sacred series like Zelda was simply unacceptable. Especially since TP was supposed to be the best Zelda of all time, the game to dethrone OoT, etc... the hype was real.

It wasn't so much about the score though. It was the reaction. All other flops combined don't even scratch the surface on the fallout from Zelda TP. The amount of people that got banned, suspended, or all out just quit visiting Gamespot and Gamefaqs just because of the score was unreal. The hysteria even spread to other sites, it's the only score I know of that was ever considered newsworthy among the gaming media.

Just Google Zelda TP 8.8 and have fun man.

Nope, I was merely having a conversation with the other user which you joined in on too. You seem to be the one who cares a lot about it and when asked to actually provide proof to your claims, you resort to deflection attempts. So again, if you can't actually provide any proof to back up your claim I'm going to assume that there was none, as was quite evident from the time leading up to the launch.

The Vita, in that I both like it and find if hilarious how it had almost everything going for it and Sony still failed to capitalise.

I went bonkers when Gamespot gave MCC a 6/10 and made some horrible threads i regret.

I pre-ordered the game digitally and was hyping it all over the place. So when it got a 6 i was shell shocked i couldn't believe it and i already bought the game and was playing through it and was in a nostalgia fest.

I wanted to punch to reviewer in the face and i was so mad.

I said they should do re-review after all the patches, and called other games like toads tracker which got an 8 trash compared to MCC.

To this day i still defend MCC has a nice cute little package for a gamer like myself sure it had issues but i wanna love it an respect it as a package.

@SolidGame_basic: I also enjoyed Too Human and didn't have problems with its camera and 8-second unskippable Respawn animation, however the game could've been balanced better and I wasn't fan of how they did monster level scaling with you @FoxbatAlpha: I think we won't get BC with this one because of legal reasons. It's a shame, though.

I thought it was an accurate score, even back then. I even remember zelda fans like myself saying how they couldn't get into it. I'd say Gran Turismo 5 was far bigger. It was one of the reasons people were buying playstations in the first place, it was synonymous with "sim" on consoles, it was shown multiple times that it was going to be a pretty big upgrade in many ways, and when it came out it not only scored low but there was almost a universal letdown. It was as if people were lied to the entire time they waited, delay after delay, for what was said--and looking to be--the next big step for racers.

Gran Turismo 5 diminished the name brand. It still sold but people became very aware of other titles.

Any Rare Xbox title (Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, the awful Viva Piñata games, Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts).

Too many but by far topping the list... MCC.

Twilight Princess was the most exciting around here because people actually played the metagame instead of running to metacritic like review scores mean things in real life.

As far as games I played that I enjoyed that were also flops... I dumped a ton of time into too human. Flawed and not up to what it's potential could've been, but fun none the less.

Duke Nukem Forever is the ultimate flop.

It had the most studios work on it , it skipped the most gens , it wasted the most time and hype And it was/is the biggest flop since the Sega 32X.
