Has anyone had a chance to play it? I downloaded the trial on the Xbox 360, and I'm surprised how god awful it looks. You'd think the Xbox 360 or PS3 would be capable of running a 2004 PC game at high settings. Turns out that a lot of settings look like they're lower than the lowest possible settings on the PC. The levels have been simplified - there are now less than 1/4th of the buildings, trees, foliage, background islands, and objects in the levels. They also managed to suck all the color out of the game.
I wish I could find some screenshots of the PC version at a higher resolution at high settings, but the game is old so they're difficult to find. Even in these low-resolution screenshots, it's abundantly obvious how minimal the console port looks compared to the original game. Worst of all - it feels like the game is struggling to maintain 30 FPS. The controls, as a result, as sluggish as sin. All the fun little details and interactive objects in the environments have been removed. The game just feels hollow and empty compared to what it was on the PC.
Sadly enough, Crytek is trying to sell it as the "ultimate version of Far Cry" with "improved HD graphics" over the original.
