Indoors, the first thing that becomes apparent is the lack of environmental detail. The prison is made up of a series of hallways and rooms, all of which are boxy and simplistic in design. Textures are muddy and often of a low resolution while the precious few objects dotted around the environment never really sit well within the scene. When combined with some unattractive specular highlights, many of the games surfaces are left looking muddy and indistinct. Worse still, the PlayStation 4 version of the game appears to use lower resolution specular maps compared to the PC and Xbox One releases.

Xbox Won. :P

On a side note, what happened to these series??? They used to be impressive on a technical standpoint (PS1 trilogy, Code Veronica, Res4...). This game looks like it could be made on a PS2.

What's hilarious is this game is based off a 3DS, both consoles should be able to handle this game with little effort. The PS4 obviously didn't like the graphic engine this game was using. No different then Konami crappy graphic engine that can't be optimized on the XB1. A sports game ported (PES) at 720P on the XB1 is ridiculous when every other sports game is 1080P 30/60fps.

"On the surface, the two console iterations of the game look mostly identical but an unexpected differentiator arises when it comes to performance. To put it simply, the PlayStation 4 version of the game runs noticeably worse than the Xbox One release. Right from the start we noted a few extra dips here and there on PS4, even though a couple of scenes do run touch faster on Sony's box. Once we set foot outdoors though, things quickly go pear-shaped for PS4. Nearly every outdoor section struggles on Sony's platform, with a large forest scene in particular falling under 30fps regularly, while those same sections on Xbox One averaged between 50-60fps by comparison.

The bottleneck seems to be related to the flashlight and grass textures, though the foliage itself does not actually cast shadows. Both versions also suffer from minor hitches and skips during normal gameplay. At least the frame-pacing issue we observed in earlier footage has been eliminated on PS4 but either way, the results are disappointing on Sony's platform - and it's not entirely clear where these issues stem from.

The game is also playable in split-screen mode and impacts performance as one would expect: frame-rate drops consistently under 60fps in this mode leading to a less fluid experience overall particularly outdoors, and PS4 doesn't close the gap in its performance differential. Visual quality at least is relatively consistent with the single-player mode, though the screen is divided into two smallish, 16:9 rectangles."

From the video they look comparably the same. Though, from reading it the biggest difference is that when it says the scene moves from indoors to outdoors, and the game on the PS4 end dips below 30fps in some instances while on the Xbox One it's between 50-60fps.

3ds could probably run that game and since its cross Gen maybe that is why they probably did not optimize it they gave ps4 the ps3 version etc

You just stated 95% of multiplats are better on PS4 than XBONE. But you refuse to accept that the same amount are better on PC than both of those.

The fact that it looks like a PS2 game and runs even shittier on the PS4 makes it even worse. Poor Cows. Keep damage controlling. "Outlast" also looked and ran better on the XB1. This is no different then Konami's unoptimized crappy games running like shit on the XB1 due to their poor graphic engine. I'm sure this is the same reason this game runs like crap on the PS4.

The lowest dip for PS4 is to as low as 27fps whereas Xbone experiences dips only to 42fps. That's quite shocking to say the least and I wonder what's the reason. Rarely has there been such a gap between two versions in favour of PS4 (which happens more often), not to mention the other way round.

@blackace: what's worse is you brag about a a 3ds port looking better on X1 when Dying Light , DoA 5 all look better or run better on PS4. Bragging about shitty ports is ridiculous. We all know the PS4 is more powerful. Is it by leaps and bounds? No, But fanboys going back and forth ensure these threads will continue and 9 times out of 10 the PS4 will win.

@Jankarcop: Except the PS4 and X1 are two prebuilt console that are the same cost that came out at the same time. Nobody gives two shits that a gpu that cost as much as the PS4 runs games better then console.

Runs at near constant 60fps at 4k for me. Dropped it down to 1440p just for smoothness.

Love the game. Great level design, atmosphere, and the coop stuff is really cool.

This is a Digital Foundry Face Off thread, you can't brag about PS4 barely beating XBONE in multiplats and then ignore the fact that they are far better on PC according to the same site. Have fun with distant second place for a majority of video games, second class gamer.

Also, the most aaa/aa games are on PC according to GS/MC, so stop going off topic about games in a gfx/performance thread.
