I hope it's not another Metroid.
Nintendo exclusives... System warriors care so much for, yet care so less for
Yep...
New IP is good...c'mon they gotta make Metroid the one with sexy Samus..& not that Federali Force crap. :P
Nintendo exclusives... System warriors care so much for, yet care so less for
System warriors only care when they can weaponize exclusives.
Even Nintendo knows metroid is dead
Metroid isn't dead why don't they make a super metroid 2 with snes style sprites and sell it for like 20 dollars or something
CAPCOM need to make megaman x and konami should do a castlevania
these franchises aren't dead people still want to play games like those they need to go back to their roots

Oh they wouldn't care if they were the best games ever made. Actually some of them were. But that's ok. We don't all need to know quality video games to pass the time.

Well, considering the series got it's Sonic 06 and will soon have it's Boom (at least in fan reception), can't blame them. Hell, I remember when Metroid fanboys FUMED when Kirby got it's 20th Anniversary instead.
A new IP by Retro sounds exciting.
Pity we don't get to see it for the better part of a year, though.
@jg4xchamp: Wouldn't surprise me if they were. Too soon for a new DKC game and they confirmed either late last year or early this year that they haven't begun working at all on a new Metroid. It's not like Nintendo is going to let them sit idle for an extended period of time and with the success of Splatoon and creativity of Retro... We'll see.
This is an exciting rumor. Retro Studios are in a league all their own in this industry. I cannot praise their work enough,
Best developer ever
They probably working on Mario Kart port to NX. They did good job on the 3DS one. Mario Kart will be a very key launch game i feel on NX. It wont be why you buy the console, but itll be why you buy on launch.

'New IP'
Cool. Too bad e3 is going to be shit still.
Yeah, none of Nintendo's other announcements bother me, but their E3 strategy flat out offends me.

She said sounds like it. I highly doubt Retro is making a new IP for NX launch. But you never know.
I would love them to leave Metroid for either a full on VR game, or another proper sidescroller game. New IP is always welcome.
Great as they were, I think it's a waste and a shame that Retro made nothing but 2D platformers for a decade. Nintendo has so many of those series and developers, but nobody who made anything like the Prime Trilogy in style, innovation, atmosphere and quality.
Be cool to see what they make for NX, if it's a new IP an RPG or action adventure would be sweet.

The 1 to 2 top quality games a year Nintendo actually release are always praised. Folks just don't want to buy a system for just them. Makes sense, really. Getting bitter at gamers for rejecting the garbage heap that was WiiU doesn't really make sense though :)

They've only made TWO Platformers. Now compare that to how many FPA games they made the decade before that.
@nintendoboy16:
Prime 3 was 2007. New IP is 2017. Intervening decade was nothing but 2D platformers. What's your issue, friend?
Which again, were only TWO games, and of a franchise that needed more attention than what Metroid got the previous years anyway (even if you wipe Other M from history). You sound like they've made nothing BUT 2D Platformers as if they made so many that Vegeta's scouter was busted.
@nintendoboy16: That they only managed 2 in that time is even worse. Great games as I said, but not the type of games that should be taking 3 or 4 years to make really.
DK didn't "need attention" any more than stuff like F Zero did, especially not with all the Mario/Yoshi/Luigi/Wario "D platformers they pump out. and they have other studios that could have handled it anyway. They don't have anyone else that can make Prime style/calibur games.
Oh well. All in the past, but could have helped the Wii/WiiU lineups!

Metroid Prime in VR would be all sorts of hnnngh

Have you not seen the junk the DK series spawned before Returns? Don't you think that, for a series that began as Shigeru Miyamoto's breakthrough, it should have had MUCH more attention to it's quality?
@nintendoboy16: DK had good (if not great) iterations on N64 and Gamecube. No, I don't think it was particularly needed. 2D mascot platformers are the one thing Nintendo has HEAPS of. Prime style games? Not so much,
Dk64 is pretty bad man, real talk. I like the rap, and part of me wants to like that game, but that game is everything lame about a Rare platformer, made 10 times worse. The fucking banana collecting in that game was such a drag at times.
Plus Nintendo having heaps of them is one thing, but again, real talk only Mario and the recent Dk games are good. Kirby's creative sure, but his games are pushovers (as they are very much meant for children in a way that even the other Nintendo games aren't), and Yoshi's games have sucked outside of allegedly the new one being the first good one since the original Yoshi's Island. Tropical Freeze isn't particularly creative (it's pretty derivative if anything). Either way of the 2d platformers they make, DK is easily the best one, NSMB is lameness in the form of a game disc, Kirby is baby's first platformer, and I haven't touched Woolly World, but the Nintendweebs on this forum like it, so it's probably garbage.

I want nothing more than Nintendo to make new ips, but I'll believe it when I see it.
They made Splatoon and Codename Steam (I'm still in shock that this game sucks so much), they had my money. I mean I would probably still pony up for Metroid, but their reliance on old ips, and then "omg our systems don't sell as much as the competition" is fucking baffling. At some point realize you need new shit.

I don't think DK64 is bad as such but it's definitely one of the worst Rare N64 games. It's no Banjo or Conker for DAMN sure. The banana collection did feel almost like satire on collectathons at times, but I did have fun apart from that.
Retro's 2D platformers are definitely the best Nintendo have made recently, I'm not complaining about their quality at all, just that in design and gameplay they get alittle bit lost amongst the other (lesser) ones. I could see half a dozen different Nintendo studios making an enjoyable DK 2d platformer. I can't (and didn't) see anyone else making a Prime style game, in design, atmosphere, innovation or quality.
It's a new faxanadu. Faxanadu 2.
Joking aside... that would be awesome.
I can think of a lot of old Nintendo games that could use a sequel or 5.... or 10.
