Am I reading this right? Sony wants to put in 8GB of GDDR5?! :oEdge: PS4 to launch in Europe in early 2014, US/JP 2013, more powerful than next XboxDevelopment sources with working knowledge of both next generation consoles have told us that PlayStation 4 will be more powerful than the next Xbox, will ship with a redesigned controller and launch by the end of the year in Japan and the US. PlayStation 4s European launch will follow in early 2014. Sony is set to reveal its next PlayStation on Wednesday February 20th at an event dubbed see the future. Sony Computer Entertainment released a teaser video last night to announce the event. Below, our sources revealed what to expect from PlayStation 4. The PS4 hardware will continually record the most recent 15 minutes of onscreen action (with no processing penalty, claims our source), which users will then be able to edit and broadcast via the Internet. The launch Were told that PlayStation 4 will launch in Japan and the US by Christmas, with a Euro rollout following in early 2014, the delay attributed to the complexities involved in European distribution. Alongside the console, Sony will also introduce a new, improved iteration of its PlayStation Eye peripheral, which remains compatible with the PlayStation Move controller. Move will be available at launch, but its not clear yet whether it will be bundled with the hardware.The specificationSony has already earned an enormous amount of goodwill among studios working with PS4 development hardware. Privately, Sony representatives have conceded that the company made a mistake in creating such esoteric architecture for PS3, and its strategy for PS4 gives developers more opportunities this time around, notably because the hardware is much more PC-like in its makeup than PS3. We have confirmed with sources that recently leaked tech specs are accurate. Though Durango devkits offer 8GB of DDR3 RAM, compared to Orbiss 4GB, Sonys GDDR5 solution is capable of moving data at 176 gigabytes per second, which should eliminate the sort of bottlenecks that hampered PS3 game performance. Importantly, weve learned that Sony has told developers that it is pushing for the final PS4 RAM to match up to Microsofts 8GB. Both platforms are driven by eight-core AMD CPUs clocked at 1.6GHz, with Microsoft opting for a D3D11.x GPU from an unknown source and Sony utilising a more capable solution in AMDs R10XX architecture, alongside the so-called Liverpool system-on-chip. Its clear Sony has designed a system that, on paper, outperforms Microsofts next Xbox. One source familiar with both platforms tells us that in real terms Sonys console is slightly more powerful and very simple to work with. Ultimately, the performance differences between the two consoles will have as much bearing on multiplatform releases as the differences between PS3 and 360 very little but Sony will be expecting big-budget firstparty releases such as the PS4 Uncharted sequel to demonstrate its consoles superiority.

Not only that,but alot of developers read and contribute to the magazine.They have alot of contacts within the industry.

I'm not saying these rumours are 100% accurate,but if any publication is to be believed then it's Edge imo.

8 Gigs of GDDR5 seems like overkill. 4 Gigs is quite enough. Even my PC and my SLI 580s, I have 4 Gigs of GDDR5.

Remember, this is total memory, not just video memory. 8 gigs of video memory probably would be massive overkill, but 8 gigs of total memory is not that out of line, especially as it looks like they are going to be running memory heavy OSes.

If it has good games and fixes alot of issues the PS3 had(load and install times etc..) ill purchase the PS4. Maybe not right away, unless they got some really good launch games. The next xbox is a day 1 purchase though. I bought the 360 on day 1 and had a blast with it for a long time.Mkavanaugh77

Im already in great shape, work out 5 days a week!

They made the system easier to work with for devs, no more jumping through hoops.

Big plus right there. I hope both systems are easy to work with, only means more great games for everyone.

It just doesn't seem possible to me that itll launch this year.

What are we going to be playing on it?... We heard about PS3 games for years and YEARS before they actually came out. Yet we havent heard one rumored launch game or anything and its going to come out 9 months after its announcement?? How does that work?...

Even the ps vita we had to wait over a year and a half to play the games they announced for it and that is a friggin handheld..

Here is the thing MS didn't know what sony was doing,sony didn't know what MS was doing,by the times MS knew whats was coming it was to late,if you see the 720 is look like it been patch for bandwidth sakes,unlike the PS4 which look like it was build for speed. Some fans on Neogaf go as far as to claim that MS will not allow sony to have and advantage like MS could stop what sony would do with the PS4,i think the whole meltdown relies on the fact that people expected a top of the line GPU Xenos like that was something new,that isn't going to happen and MS appear to have change focus toward apps and kinect.

Well.. Australia is a part of the PAL region isn't it? So it may be included.. how did it happen for previous launches? Was Australia delayed alongside Europe?
