Why are they still pushing hard for that game? Just make a new DQ instead that's more faithful to the series instead of this mmo crap. And on a handheld I mean really?

Are the server issues because the game is more popular than they could have imagined, or did they just do a shitty job all around?

Guess we'll be getting Dragon Quest X: A Realm Reborn in a couple years.

I remember being hyped for Dragon Quest X on Wii. Was expecting an epic single player JRPG. Heh. Now it's a shitty handheld MMO and isn't even out in the West.

Oh well, guess Xenoblade and Last Story out of fucking nowhere made up for it!

All of that game sounds awful.

The reason Dragon Quest IX was so great is that it has that strong multiplayer component, but you can play the entire thing singleplayer, which meant you don't need to worry about servers and all that bull. I was super pumped when I heard about DQX as I was expecting an upgraded DQIX (in terms of amount of content, customization, etc.) but instead they made an always online MMO. Interest died.

Leave it to Square to ruin what was once a good series.

You have to give it to Square and other Japanese developers: at least they admitted there was an issue and stopped shipping the game. Your Bethesdas and EAs would tell their costumers to suck it up and wait for a patch that will be done when (and if) it's done.

Having played a big total of 0 games in the franchise, i have to ask...why is DQ such a popular franchise in Japan? is it really THAT good?

I think because it left a huge impact in Japan and the fact that the series is the first of it's kind that started the jrpg genre. Yes even before the Final Fantasy series. And the fact that the Japanese gamers like the gameplay of DQ a lot.
