In most cases i go with Gamespot/IGN/Metacritic or other online reviews to make my decision while buying a game of my choice. Example i want to play The Witcher 3 , and it got 10/10 on gamespot so its DAY 1 buy for me. Suppose if it got 7 and i'll wait till price drop or never buy it depending on the review ( say game got perfomance issues). I wanted to play Assassins Creed Unity very much, but i never bought the game reading online reviews that game got severe perfomance issues on launch but some gamers with 'very high end PC' were praising the game very much.

wbu warriors? Do you just buy a game you want to play inspite game getting very poor review or go for other players opinion ?

If you do that then it's really a game of their choice, not yours.

i mentioned game of my choice, but reviews on the game got to be good. Say i want to play Arkham Knight on PC , its no sense buying it on PC when reviews saying its completely unoptimised on PC ya ?

Only if a majority of the sites say a game is flat out broken. Bad AI, Graphical Glitches, Crashing, Malware, ect.. are not Opinions.

I find a game i'm interested in, and watch a few youtube reviews. I usually decide then If I want it or not. I may check Meta later, but it doesn't affect my decisions usually.

I don't bother with reviews. I know what I like and research a game based on trailers and previews.

I usually trust posters/people I know for info like that instead of reviewers, who might have conflicts of interest or possibly have received things from devs/publishers.

This whole industry relies on hype and misinformation and anti-consumer practices.

They dont for me, i just buy games from producers and developers that i have previously enjoyed. I also try out new stuff that makes me curious, but usually i just stick to my go tos. I enjoy reading how much others enjoy the same games im into though, its fun to read others experiences.

@indzman: No. I decide if I want a game or not. Sure if I read if a game is broken then I'm not going to pick it up....but chances are I wasn't interested in anyway.

Sometimes, just when i really have doubts about a game or i find a game on the bargain bin that i don't much about it, but usually i don't only rely on reviews, i also watch previews and trailers.

I don't take the word of one reviewer as gospel, but I do pay attention to the general consensus. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't affect my purchasing decisions. Alien Isolation is a game I held off on buying due to the mixed reviews - and I'm glad I did. It's a very good game, but I don't think I would've liked it as much if I paid $60 for it. The game had some very bad pacing issues, which many reviews warned me about.

I've bought games at full price in the past though that have gotten slammed by reviewers. The biggest one that comes to mind is Too Human. I absolutely loved that game, but I understood the criticism.

Looking at multiple is a good way to gauge the quality of a game, what it's about and what it has to offer. I don't exactly base my decision on what they say, but it helps me get a better idea of what I may or may not be getting into.

Rarely. I usually know if I want to give a game a try by keeping track of it from reveal to release. I also have devs/series I like so I go with that.

Ok, but many bought it on PC because they knew what Rocksteady Batman games had been before this release. Knight was the rare, odd PC title that got screwed up. I wouldn't have waited for the review either. I got it for X1 because I am a fan of the series and my best friend was buying it on X1.

Absolutely. I use gamerankings and metacritic. I don't have time to play every game that comes out. Those types of sites help narrow the choices down.

I try to get multiple opinions on any game and IGN and Gamespot are definitely ones I check. They usually give good advice but every once in a while I don't end up agreeing. For instance, I held off picking up Alice: Madness returns because of IGN and GS gave it somewhat low scores but ended up loving that game.

They normally do. I'm never a day 1 buyer, and so I always see the scores before getting a game. If I see terrible scores I'll reconsider it (depending a lot on what the reasons were for those terrible scores), and if I see great scores I'll go ahead and buy it.

Nope, I believe games are worth trying myself instead of a faceless reviewer that is either paid off or doesn't like the genre.

The only way I would pass on something I was really looking forward to was if I heard the game was flat out bad horribly panned, and or broken. But if I were really interested id probably try n rent it just to see for my self.

Kinda like Haze lol man those reviews were spot on lol

Depends on the game is when I take into consideration of a review score. If I'm on the fence about a game I'll check out a review score. Typically I watch Game Trailer reviews though.

I read lots of reviews of games I'm interested in to get a good feel for what they're about but if I want something I'll just go ahead and get it even if the reviews aren't favourable.

The only "reviews" I care about are Zero Punctuation for the lulz and Steam community reviews for overall impression of a game I know nothing about (like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine that I bought yesterday on a whim).

They help me decide on games I'm not sure about, like right now I'm waiting to see how MGSV is before I preorder it, but there are some games I know I'll like that don't review overly well (Omega Quintet for a recent example) so I don't care about them then.

Not really. Many times reviewers really don't have a clue what they are talking about. There are very few unbiased reviewers out there. I have found so many good games that reviewers have panned, and so many games that reviewers have gushed over have sucked.

If the game is absolutely terrible, yes. If its broken I am not going to play it. If one game gets less than 5/10 from nearly every critic that touches it, it does give a decent idea about the game. Its not very likely they will all be wrong about its quality or gameplay.

But if I am interested in the game and it hasn't been completely trashed by everyone who has touched it then no, I would buy it as I am interested in it. I probably go with Metacritic's overall critic score than user or individual critic reviews.

I generally go with my own instinct as well, you can usually tell the quality of a game by its animations and other things leading up to release. So it isn't likely i will be interested in a game that will get a ridiculously low score at review anyway. A lot of the time I am 60/100 and upwards games depending on whether i have a personal interest in them. There have been some high scoring games that I haven't and may never try.

No I use reviews as guides, I definitely take them into account when making decisions , but I will never stop from buying a game because another person says "I don't like that game". Same thing with movies. And I've been burned in the past buying games because they were highly rated.....this does not guarantee you will like the game at all, a lot of it comes down to personal taste.

Occasionally. Sometimes a purchase feels risky and I use a review (usually a video review so I can look at footage at the same time) to get some perspective on the full package. I don't ever use metascores tho. A number without context is not useful whereas a well written review can be.

I don't care about rating/rankings of any game.I have a pretty good judge of a game by just watching the trailer, and sometimes getting peoples views on a game by reading their posts.

Otherwise demo/gameplay is what hooks me or not.

Demos do give a better idea than a review most of the time but they can be a bit deceptive. For instance, Destiny makes a very good impression in demo form, but because demos are so short, you don't get an idea just how repetitive and unimaginative its design is.

If it's a game I plan on picking up at launch I'll wait incase there is some day one fiasco shit where stuff flat out doesn't work. Otherwise no, Youtube killed any incentive for me to actually read reviews. Much easier just to watch a gameplay clip and decide from there.

^ exactly this. The alpha and beta made me think Destiny was going to be much larger, but essentially it was exactly the same once released.

More often than not, a demo actually scares me away from a purchase.
