Does 3DS get enough credit for its use of 3D in games?

Can't really think of any other system that implements it so well. A lot of 3DS games I've played like Fire Emblem, Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and Smash make great use of it. It seems like the next 3DS iteration will make it even better. What do you think, SW? Do you care about 3D?

I love the 3D. In most games, it's a visual gimmick, but at least developers have learned some restraint, so it's no longer distracting like it used to be in earlier games on the system- and some games, like A Link Between Worlds, Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus Uprising, and Super Smash Bros. use it very well.

It's crap, turn it off after 5 minutes.

Instead of investing in stupid gimmicks, nintendo should invest in making their handhelds more powerfull.

The 3DS is a joke compared to Vita's hardware in almost every way.

I'm not a fan of 3D, but I don't think it's that great on the 3DS.

Much better on the PC (Nvidia 3D Vision 2)

the 3d was downplayed from the start. every video game review site ignored to even mention it in their reviews.

thats why the 3ds didnt do as well as the DS....the 3d was mostly ignored by everyone.

You really think it's that bad? Do you have a 3DS? I do agree though that Vita's hardware is much better (but that's a given).

They probably don't get much credit due to it being such a pain in the ass to experience. Keeping your head still and the system right in front of your face in the sweet spot and not move (which causes blur) is a hassle. But it is a cool feature, though IMO only enjoyable in small amounts under the right condition. However I do think with the new use of 3DS in the New 3DS that's enjoyable from any angle and distance might make 3D a much more popular feature. With it being less painstaking to enjoy I think people might talk about the 3D more.

I have two 3DS's, love the games. (3DS blows Vita out of the water in that regard)

But the 3D is one of the biggest crap gimmick I've seen spouted out Ninty's arse. It's also very poorly done but the new 3DS will tackle that problem.

Anyway it's a pure waste of energy imo.

Instead of putting another stick on the handheld, Ninty adds a lame gimmick..ah well, Nintendo gonna Nintendo

It has a small range in which the 3D works, you have to be in an area that is dark or lacking in any natural light. It just isn't that good, so after the initial hour or so of testing it in Zelda and Mario I haven't used it since.

3D only really works in a (good) cinema, or in something like Oculus. You need to have your peripheral vision completely covered for 3D to work convincingly. 3DS adds a little bit of depth, but the limitations of it means it is best just leaving it switched off.

I think the 3D effect is a stupid gimmick and it hurts my eyes.

I don't even notice it on SSB.

SM3DL, KI:U, and FE:A look the best with it.

I almost always have it turned off. (and the time that it isn't turned off, is because I forgot to turn it off).

While I love my 3DS, it is one of the stupidest gimmicks ever. You have to hold your head at a certain angle and distance from the screen to even see the "3D".

I shut off the 3D feature on my daughter's 3DS.

I never use it and nvidia 3d vision 2 does it so much better.

Hoping it's better on the new 3ds, but I'm not holding my breath.

I heard the xl has better 3d than the original I have, but after playing on one at Nintendo world, it seemed the same to me but the larger screen is nice and makes everything easier to see.

It gets so much credit the released a 2ds

I don't really use it that much as it can be somewhat bothersome during game play, but when it's stationary it's very well done especially for title screens. It's a nice feature, but unfortunately just gimmicky in the end.

It is. The camera technology tracks your eyes and face, so that the 3D never breaks for you and effectively no longer has a 'sweet spot.'

It ranges from making things actually look worse (NSMB 2) to "I see what you did there" (Fire Emblem) and then there are the dungeons from A Link Between Worlds, which look absolutely stunning in 3D.

I mostly find it a Visual Gimmick. It's nice to have, and it's very cool to see, but If the game is bad it's just bad.

Super Mario 3D Land, a game that many people swear up and down is one of the best games on the 3DS and it makes good use of the 3D is just a bad Mario game. Not because of the 3D, but because it's just a bad Mario Game.

Kid Icarus Uprising on the other hand, makes good use of the 3D AND you can play it entirely without the 3D on as well AAANNDDD it's a good game.

the 3D on the 3DS is just a Visual Gimmick that shouldn't be rated to determine the game's worth. a Bad game is a Bad game no matter how good or bad the graphics are.

I turn it off for every game I play.

The 3D is amazing in games like SM3DL, Mario Kart and Kid Icarus. The others, Smash included are ok with 3D but it's not a must. I especially don't like it when it hits the frame rate.

I never cared for the 3D. Love the system though.
