Yes and no. Yes, because it gives new players a chance to play older titles, and even if you've played a game before it's great to have the best version if you really like it (assuming they don't mess up the remaster).

No, because publishers rely too much on them, I mean Sony's main holiday game for 2 years now has been a remaster, that's just sad. Really sad. And MS last year with the MCC. That and I think there's too many of them, not every game should be remastered.

I say no, but maybe when an HD remaster comes out of a game i haven't played - i might change my mind on the concept.

Yes, i feel they should make them all available on eShops. It sucks sometimes wanting a Nintendo game and having to pay $80+ for a used copy. If they are bringing something new to the table, then im in heaven.

And release them at good times also, like 6 months before a new game from the series is coming. That way i can play it before the new one if i want. I plan on playing a lot of Zelda games next year. I bought a bunch. I was cleaning Target out on that buy 2 get one free.

or 200+ like earthbound (even though it's already out on the eshop).

@n64dd: Now that we need a remake physical copy, cause yeah, i want that game badly, but i dont want to spend that amount on one game. Please Nintendo, bring Earthbound back. Please make one copy and release same game on NX handheld and home console.

@mesome713: It won't happen. I wish it would. I have a mint hard copy and more people need to play it in it's full glory.

Yes, for the following reasons:

  • The people who have never played the game before because they did not own the previous console it was made for get a chance to play it. This is especially good for story driven games before a sequel comes out.
  • The people that have played the game before and really love the game get to enjoy an improved version of a game they love.
  • They are cheap and quick to produce and the money that the developers make from the remake can be used to help fund new games.
  • Despite what some haters say, they do not prevent developers from releasing new games. Remasters usually have a small B team of only a few people assigned to make the remasters while the majority of the developers continue to work on new games.
  • If you don't want them, nobody is going to force you to buy them.

I voted no.. because if all of the video game developers were always focused on designing remakes, then we wouldn't get any *new* games, and for me, that'll bring down the market's quality.

Kinda like what we have here lol, except they're not remakes (by definition, anyway), they're yearly released sequels.

If remasters are not cannibalizing resources from new game, sure. I also don't mind remasters so long as they are improved in some way (usually graphics) from the originals.

As long as they are not the only thing being offered they are okay, they help keep the wheels of industry turning so to speak but that machine needs new ideas to keep moving forward and so there shouldn't be too much of those remasters floating around.
