Poll Do you respect Nintendo (96 votes)
Well?

I respect them for what they did for the gaming industry. Had it not been for them, the market would be a lot different.
Unlike Sony and Microsoft, they stayed there for the gamers… They just don't flaunt about it like Sony.
I very much respect them, but I do feel that they need to change their image a little and try to win third party developers over to their system. From what I've seen, Wii U is a nice system. The fact that you can add as much storage space as you want with external hard drives is a total plus, IMHO. My opinion of Mario 3D World is changing too. It really does look like it's gonna be a great Mario game. I only wish that Nintendo would do more to bring 3rd party games in. It would be wonderful if Nintendo could get most of those indie games coming to the other two systems on their machine. Would help them out a lot I think. Honestly, of the big three, Nintendo is the only one actually focused on real gameplay and not QTEs, interactive movies, or fps games all the time. I love a good fps game, but how about some variety.
In reality, I wish all those kinds of games were on Nintendo's system and complimenting Nintendo's own games. It's nice to have CoD along side Mario. Hmm, CoD and Mario...Maybe I don't need a PS4 or Xbone. Dang, I'll still need to get one of them because of KH3 and FF XV!!! Guess the One it is because I do like me some Halo.
Yes for reviving the industry.
No because their consoles aren't exactly my cup of tea anymore. They've done many things right, but in recent years, they're not exactly what they were in the 80s and 90s. I'm probably one of the few old veteran gamers here (36) and I'm willing to admit that. I think people have given them way too much credit, whether its nostalgia or blind fanboyism or other reasons. Nintendo's glory days are long gone and I've gotten over that and simply moved on.
Yes, some bad choices wont hurt them in the long run. 3DS is amazing, and Wii U will at least do as well as Gamecube or N64, both were arguably very good consoles themselves.
Nintendo has always been making great consoles and games. THe fact that they are still here today and doing so well is amazing.
Were Ninty to die, I really believe the gaming industry would go with it...at least on the console front.
Once they get their shit together and entice more third parties, Wii U could be a power house, instead of a good console that falied to be the great one it had the potential to be.
So yeah, I respect them. Sony as well while we're talking about. Microsoft....eh, I used to but these days they have alot to make up for.
As a hardware company, no, because they're failing to listen to their fanbase, or 3rd party developers.
As a software company I don't find them to be particularly good. It seems any time I play a game that's pushing the boundaries of game design, it's not a Nintendo game. Nintendo sticks to safe "tried and true" game formulas without ever seeking to up the bar.
I thought they really F'd up their 3DS and Wii U launches, though they turned around the 3DS with a price drop, the introduction and improvement of the XL model, and brought plenty of games to make it well worth it. Furthermore the Wii U failed commercially and critically at launch, and Nintendo made big mistakes planning the release, but time has given us a price cut, better games, still commercially it's not doing that good. I gave sheep a hard time about false optimism about the Wii U but I still wanted one eventually. I decided to get a Wii U instead of a next gen Xbox or PlayStation and I'm glad I did. There's a good amount to get now and look forward to, and it's cheaper. I can sit back and relax and see how the X1 and PS4 battle it out over the next few months before deciding which one to get.
I respect the fact they continue to make children friendly games that parents can trust. If Nintendo grew up, another company would immediately try to swoop in and do what Nintendo does, only they'd end up doing it worse.
I don't personally have any interest in Nintendo games. Solving puzzles meant for 8 year olds on my way to saving yet another princess would make me feel like Peter Pan's angsty long lost cousin. That doesn't mean I hope the Wii U sinks Nintendo though, even though that looks like the likely outcome at this point...

Same here. I'm 40, though, and I cut my teeth on Atari 2600. I remember very well that glory days of Nintendo when all the great third party games were on their system. It's all different now, and Nintendo's struggling to keep up, but at the same time, they are keeping with gameplay is king, which I really like. It's not all about cut scenes or qte's when you play a Nintendo game. In fact, their portfolio of games is truly stellar-if only they would bring more of those games to the console instead of just the handheld. How about a great Fire Emblem game, or heavan help us all, a main line Pokemon game like X and Y, or another great Metroid Prime game? Jeez, they have so many great franchises of their own that they don't even release a quarter of the games for on their console. Would help Wii U out a lot. They gotta realize that they need to support their console as much as their handheld if they want it to suceed.
You might not like their current offerings, but you would dumb as shit and undeserving of being a gamer if you don't, at the very least, respect them.
Shigeru Miyamoto is Nintendo, whey he quit i Nintendo will be nothing...but for now yes
You realize his retirement is inevitable, right? It's getting closer and closer

I hate for Nintendo to die, but on the other hand if we're going that far, maybe the industry could use a reboot.
@nintendoboy16: I hope it doesn't happen:P and I don't believe we need a reboot. We're on the brink of a new gen, so who knows what is going to happen at this point. Its going to be very fun to see. i feel like a lot of positive can come out of the big three (even Microsoft....they have halo). Why do you think a industry reboot would be needed?
(Side note, love your avy, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is one of my favorite movies of all time...also have hollywood crush on Ramona/ Mary Elizabeth Winstead.)

Well you're not playing the right games then
Most definitly.
I may not agree with some of the decisions they've made in the last couple of years but in the end they've been in the videogame business for what like 30 years and they're still making some of the best games in the world. I'll always have a soft spot for the big N.
For what they did, certainly.
They're just behind with the times, and for that, I just cannot respect them. They never deliver, and they never seem to learn properly. It's tedious dealing with Nintendo products, because they always feel like a lot of steps back.
I respect what they've done for the industry, but their archaic strategy and anti-consumer tactics combined with their reliance on 25 year old franchises leaves me very torn on them. Monolith Soft is amazing though, by far their best developer, a shame Nintendo doesnt recognize the goldmine that they have.
