Always Mouse and Keyboard. Used to play Tekken 3 on playstation emulator with keyboard, ages ago. So, due to that I can play fighting games on keyboard easily as well. On other hand, I have no problem playing racing games on keyboard in single player but when playing multiplayer, controller helps a lot. But I'm not a big multiplayer guy.

kb/m if it's a first person (or third over-the-shoulder) perspective, or anything where I need to point and click like TWD or Torchlight...

For driving games and action games where the camera isn't fixed behind the character, however, I'd rather a controller.

Depends on my game or the mood. For first person and third person shooters, I like mouse and keyboard. RTS I need mouse and keyboard. Controller is good for everything else.

God no. I'm not dissing the old k/m, but I grew up playing consoles exclusively and have never really adapted to it.

Depends on the game....for shooters i always go with mouse and keyboard , for racing and action adventure games with third person view the best option for me is a Xbox controller ! Mostly because i hook up my case to TV so i have to play with controller...

Depends on the game. RTS and MMO I do K/M.

Fighting games on the other hand I would do an arcade stick or even a controller over k/m, but I'm a very, VERY competitive tourney level fighting gamer with twitch reflexes.

Platformers are controller, 2D games are controller, and action/adventure is controller as well. I don't do racing, but I would take a steering wheel or controller over k/m, but I have done them with k/m when I dabbled in the genre.

Sports games is a controller...thinking about it, K/M is for RTS, MMO, and I can do FPS on k/m since that's where the genre was born and I was there when that happened. I can switch from FPS to console as well though.

Plus, controllers are great for split screen co op.

I'm sure you'd get used to it fast for shooters, but for the rest of games I guess since gaming and controlling the game is a learned skill, it's just best to stick to what you're used to.

For most any game the keyboard/mouse combo is the best.

I keep a controller around for 2D platformers though. They're better for racing games too, but if I could, I'd go all out and buy a nice wheel to play driving games on.

I'm fine with both.

M/K always on the PC unless the game calls for a controller.

Depends on the game. Most of the stuff I like playing is better suited for a controller, but god damn do I hate having to aim with an analog.

@indzman:

Started with some genuis controller on PC, then I upgraded to a Microsoft Sidewinder joystick, which I used for racing and fighting games, then many years later I finaly got a 360 controller, shorter after that I stupidly sold my PC for a 360 Console and now, once a week curl up into a ball, in the shower.... naked. .... traumatised by what I've done.... controller is still awesome though. :)

It depends on the game and I have long histories of using both controllers and keyboard and mouse.

Was Bad decision, its always good to've a gaming PC around ( not neccessarily a High end ). I'm also a console gamer but keep a gaming PC just in case consoles dying on me :)

Controller, because the genres I like more are played better on them, but KB/M for rt strategy games (LOL of course).

Depends on the genre of game I'm playing, FPS and RTS/Sim I usually prefer kb/m while everything else is controller.

Depends on the game, really.

Action, Sports, Platformers, Racing is Controller.

Shooter, RPG, Strategy is KB/M

Usually 50/50 when it comes to TPS', just depends on the control scheme.

like many others stated, it depends on genre.

FPS, RPG, RTS (any kind of tactics really), TPS (although that genre Works just as well with any): KB/M

Platformers, Character fighting games, JRPG (specifically), Sports (in theory): Controller

Beat'Em'Ups: Controller or fight stick.

Flying games (mostly sims): Flight Stick

That would likely be my preferences. Anyone can use any input device they wish really, it is not a case of unplayable, but how well it feels, and I wlways go for the input device that feels the best for any specific genre and game.

Both? If you seriously have access to both for your platform but refuse to use one or the other, you confuse me.. Both have their positives and negatives depending on the game and genre.

KB/M is the best control method for 3d games in 1st or 3rd person perspective so ill use that wherever I can unless its a racing game or flight/space sim. I am not really into Street Fighter type games and there arent many platform games that interest me in this day and age, but when I do play those I use a controller.

depends on the game, RTS, FPS, are better played with a K/M but third person action games are really better played with a controller. but it's personal preference, esp if you haven't got experience on K/M it can be quite confusing if you've come from always playing with a controller, but of course if you master it, it can be the best thing

it depends, controller for fps and tps are complete garbage, meanwhile for action games and racers are better, i use both depending on the game, for example castlevania is best played with controller but i couldn't stand playing bf4 with one. Master race can choose as always.

Probably an even mix, FPS and most TPS I play with KB/M but I did play Tomb Raider with a controller because it just felt more natural being able to slouch back and relax (and I can aim more than adaquately with a controller in a single player game). I use an arcade stick for fighters and twitchier games like Super Meat Boy for example.

Depends. Controller isn't just a different control method, it also changes the feel of a game. I like ms/kb, but because it is so standardized, all fps games play the same for the most part.

I really dig the controllers that "feel like they aren't there". N64 with the rumble pack on certain games feels like an extension of the game, not a hurdle for the player to overcome.

Hmmm... neither.

I don't hate my 360 because its a 360, I hate it because Microsoft is a shit company, so that means no Xbox One either, Sony just ain't for me.... which only leaves me with Wii U as the only option.

Mouse & Keyboard for 90% of games.... 10% for a controller when the game just requires it (Racers, Fighters).

Its just far more flexible. won't touch a shooter with a controller... so bad...

This is what I don't get. It isn't bad, it is just a different experience all together. Imo Halo plays better on a controller because of the way the game moves and the cqc stuff going on. Statements like this remind me of the old 8/16bit days of blaming a loss on a controller. It is all about even playing fields and what player can better master any given control input.

I usally use KB/M for shooters but they can be quite fun with a controller too, particularly if you turn off aim-assist because it offers a tougher challenge. I despise aim-assist in any game.

I can't wait to play GTA V 1st person with a KB/M and driving with an Xbox 360 controller.

Flight sims, space sims: joystick/keyboard + separate rudder pedals and throttle control (if available).

TPS, platformers, and other 3rd person (eg isometric action, sports): controller

Driving and racing: driving wheel and pedals

FPS, RPG (including isometric RPG), classic, and strategy: keyboard and mouse

That about covers my list of genres

-----

I'd be horrified if flight/space sims ever became keyboard and mouse only. Same goes for controller with FPS games.

The beauty of PC gaming, you can choose whichever controller you want.
