Although i've a pretty average card on my PC ( MSI Twin Frozr Nvidia 750 ti 2 gb GTX ) i prefer Nvidia all the way over AMD. In future upgrade i'll go with Nvidia again over AMD as Nvidia supports all games whereas AMD faces some issues in certain games during release of those games (before new support software update is out).

wbu guys? :)

I've not had an AMD card since 2010. I just stick with Nvidia now as I'm used to them.

Never used Nvidia before(have a 210 in a build meant for work not gaming, its basically a MS powerpoint machine so that doesn't count)

So I have not used Nvidia before, however will be getting the 970 soon to upgrade my 7850.

I have been exchanging both going back and forth. Recently I changed to the red side with a R9 285 and I miss the green side already. Nvidia had better software support for my current needs.

i had a 7970 and now a r9 290x and they are both pretty good, i do like geforce drivers better since they can force vsync from the driver for directx games without 3rd pt programs, but i am also waiting for the new freesync monitors so i went with amd again.

I'll go with whatever I feel is right at the time. Has generally been AMD but I'm rocking a Nvidia atm. I must say it's far quieter than all the AMD's I've had which is a nice bonus! My 7950 boost sounded like a plane taking off.

@indzman: Nvidia all the way.

Only dedicated AMD (ATI at the time) card I ever used, I had tremendous driver issues with.

Nvidia here. And I usually go all out with GPU's. I went from a GTX 690 to 2 Titan Blacks. And if Nvidia comes out with a beast in the spring I will probably buy 2-3 of those too. AMD does nothing for me. The only real advantage they have is price.

I am using AMD parts now (second hand and I got them really cheap). For my next build I will most likely go with Nvidia, I've had quite a bit of experience with both and I prefer Nvidia.

Nvidia

AMD has improved their GPU line tremendously over the last 2-3 years, but they still aren't on the same level as Nvidia.

I would love to get a Amd card, just wished Amd got its shit together. My last Amd/Ati card was the 5770, have been all Nvidia since then, 2x gtx580 and now gtx 780.

But really dislike Nvidia after all BS they done last years. While Amd put out out things like open source free for all to use like FreeSync etc Nvidia doing to opposite...which is bad for gamers

Considering how the 970 is a practical steal right now, Nvidia. Also in general more consistent performance and much better power efficiency.

I've been Green Team for a long time now, can't remember the last ATI (never had AMD) card I had but it would have been paired with an Athlon CPU.

Intel for CPU, nVidia for GPU. AMD have a long way to go to catch up, especially with drivers.

I was alternating between AMD and Nvidia cards until I bought my 4gb GTX 770 (replaced a GTX 560 Ti). On my next PC, I'll restore the alternating trend and buy an AMD card next.

  • GTX 770
  • GTX 560 Ti
  • HD 5770
  • 8600 GT
  • X800XL
  • GF4 Ti-4200
  • Radeon 7200 (original Radeon)

-----

  • TNT2
  • Riva 128/3dfx Voodoo 2 SLI
  • Matrox Millenium/3dfx Voodoo
  • ATI Mach 64

I have no real preference. I kinda miss Matrox cards though. Their 2D/Windows desktop image quality spanked those from both Nvidia and AMD. I had a Matrox Mystique on one of my secondary PCs. Great 2D, weak 3D.

I can't say I like or don't like Nvidia but I like AMD better. Why? because of their approach towards the industry. All the games that are made in collaboration with AMD work perfectly with Nvidia too. But most of the Nvidia optimized games run like shit on AMD hardware-----> AC Unity, Far cry 4, Watch Dogs or any Ubisoft game you name it.

I only had issues with AMD drivers back when I had a 5450 then I upgraded to GT440 for quite a while and now I'm rocking an MSI R9 280X. I have no problems with the 280x so far.

I really like Nvidia. I like their technological advancements and they have great software support. But if AMD ever convince me of their CPUs and GPUs, I'll be happy to give them a try.

But as of right now, I'm really happy with my i5 and Palit StormX Dual GTX 750TI.

I'm looking forward to seeing the 960 in action, but will likely get the '60' version of the next series up from the 9 series, just because my card is only maybe 6 months old.

I've used both products but I prefer Nvidia.

Nvidia tends to have better driver and game support.

Also Nvidia has certain features not supported by AMD products like Physx.

I generally just go with whichever is best value. I have a r9 290x right now, had GTX 670 SLI before that, a Radeon 6950 before that, a GTX 280, Radeon 3870 before that, GTX 8600 before that, and so on.

Both brands are good. Anyone who still spouts the "AMD has terrible drivers" spiel is either a fanboy or hasn't used AMD/ATI cards in over 5 years. There is no significant difference in the amount of issues either brand has.

AMD. While their drivers are a little behind in terms of amount of forcible features, they're on par with Nvidia in terms of performance/issues.

As others have pointed out, I also don't like Nvidia approach to the industry vs AMD's.

Not to mention the youtube videos of Nvidia cards blowing up when overclocking because of bad drivers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRo-1VFMcbc

That Nvidia has much better power efficiency is pretty much indisputable. However I do like the AMD though, they are after all the underdogs here with the state that the company is in. I would want them to win, because they seem to do things from the heart and take risks than pure cold, calculative decision making like Nvidia. My wallet disagrees with me though, particularly considering the price of the 970 vs the r9 290x.

I prefer Nvidia...

AMD has better pricing, but some compatibility issues.

I like both. My main two PCs are Nvidia powered. My two backup PCs are AMD powered which I use for LAN parties.

It's a shame Nvidia seems to have the market cornered because I like AMD as a company better.

No one "prefers" AMD. They settle for it because it's cheaper, or get suckered into the "price/performance" nonsense only to be fucked over in in game performance, glitches, and poor drivers

To be fair they have pretty awesome offerings in the mid range - R7 260x under 150 and R9 270x under 200 are priced lower than similarly performing Nvidia offerings. It is at the high end they start to suffer.

I picked up my MSI Lighting 290x for $280 during a sale with the 4 free games. The cheapest 970 right now is $325, and that is a low end Zotac card with 1 free game. Probably the best 290x w/ 4 games for $280 vs. a low end 970 w/ 1 game for $325? I'm pretty happy with what I got, even if the 970 uses less power

But the 290 non-x is generally the best value right now in that performance bracket. It can be overclocked to match stock 290x/970 performance and can be easily found for less than $240. It looks like retailers seemed to stop the Never Settle Bundle for now, but once it starts up again the 290 will be an even better deal

Good point. Also there is AMD software like TressFX that works on Nvidia but Nvidia has software like Physx that only works on Nvidia.

I'd rather they let people decide on other merits which is the card for them instead of holding optimization or certain features hostage :)

So AMD has a big +1 from me.

Wow, 280 for the r9 290x is pretty awesome. However you got lucky, considering that right now the lowest you can find about now is 330. The Zotac 970 is 299 currently on amazon, which makes it much much better value than the 290x.

The 290 is good, but its around 250, and that stage you might as well pay a little extra to get the 970, which is a good OCer as well.

Actually AMD has made huge leaps in power efficiency is recent years. It was AMD that started this "zero core" powerstate feature where the fans would turn off and the core would almost shutdown if the GPU was at idle on the desktop.

@clyde46 Huge leaps notwithstanding, AMD cards' current TDP leaves a lot to be desired. Consider the r9 290x - tdp of 250W vs the 970 at 145.

You are also comparing cards where one came out in 2013 vs one that was released in the middle of 2014. One of was designed for all out power where the other one had a massive focus on reducing energy requirements and heat output. Yes the 970 is better in that regard but we are still waiting on AMD's answer to the 980/970 series. The 290X was designed to compete with the 7** series where its TDP was a lot closer to that of Team Green.

Right now with Nvidia's Maxwell ..you'd have to be a nuts to go AMD. Nvidia right now..unless AMD can come with the same/better performing card with same/lower TDP than GTX970. :P

Atm have a AMD/ATi HD5870 ..next card if upgrade GTX970. :P

AMD easily .. Best price to performance ratio GPUs by a long mile.

Ofc there are times that is behind but that happens to every company out there , including NVIDIA. Im not falling into hype , im falling to price/ perf ratio though and for years now im pretty happy with my AMD purchases ( i dont change GPUs every year , why to ? ) . So i wont change to NVIDIA anytime soon.

Nvidia but that's because their product is better and that could change. I have no brand loyalty.

I've always gone Nvidia and I'll admit, I'm just going with what I know.

I don't even know if I'd chalk it up to brand loyalty, no fanboyism about it or anything like that. I don't know much about hardware beyond the absolute basics, but I've never been displeased with an Nvidia product so I just keep going back.
