It's surely going to go out with a whimper IMHO.

But hopefully that whimper is a Metroid game. Would be pretty sad if the console never even got a Metroid (and honestly it's been awhile since we really had a great Metroid game, as both Wii games were disappointing).

Xenoblade is going to be incredible no doubt.

The NX should launch with a Metroid game, that would clearly get some interest in the new console/handheld

Now is the time to go out and buy everything Wii U. Their games are already becoming rare and hard to find. Pikmin is selling for above retail. Even 3rd party games if possible. A complete Wii U set will sell for crazy money years down the road. If you're smart you're buying everything with the Nintendo logo on it.

Gamestop randomly pulled new copies of Super Mario 3D World off shelves a few weeks ago.

Just why? That's freaking stupid!

The WiiU is going to get the exact same support as the Nintendo 64, Gamecube and Wii before it:

  • 3 - 5 good Nintendo games a year, usually a couple "must have" titles such as Bayonetta 2, and a few "nice to have" ones like the safe sequels, average spinoffs, minigames and seemingly endless samey 2d platformers.
  • A very rare third party gem, once in a blue moon
  • Support will end after about 4 years

It's a pretty standard pattern at this point, going back many generations... it's time to stop being surprised.

I think the console will end with Zelda in 2016, and they'll release a new one in 2017. PS4 and Xbone will still be going, obviously.

The biggest disappointment is the lack of Virtual Console titles. Wiiu should have all the big snes, nes, n64, and even gamecube titles available.

Zelda will be the last big AAA game released on the Wii U. No point in releasing another AAA title on the failing Wii U after Zelda.

They have at least four years left to support the Wii U. What's all this going out with a bang talk.

Hahahah, that isn't how Nintendo works. Once Nintendo announces a successor to their home console they usually drop support of that console.

With the NX announced, I think Nintendo is going to start early on developing titles for it for a strong launch, which will probably mean a shortfall of titles for the Wii U and 3DS... I expect the Wii U to fizzle out, Zelda and Star Fox won't be their swan song, rather shit games like Devil's Third will probably grace the console in its last throws.

That might have been true if the Wii U wasn't Nintendo's worst selling home console. Nintendo saw the writing on the wall last year and has since switched their priorities to the NX and making sure that console doesn't flop.

The Wii U will go out like it has been going. With no third party support and great 1st party games.

The only question is when is Nintendo going to switch development over to NX.

At this point there are at least 20 Wii U games that have released or will release that will justify the purchase. The only reason someone wouldn't purchase one at this point is if they were a fanboy, is someone who thinks only children play Mario games, or has some sort of vendetta against Nintendo.

And before you respond with the "b b but teh rehash" garbage, think about the games currently being hyped on other systems and come up with a better rebuttal.

I think Nintendo need to ride the Wii U out. If they release another console way too early, it will indeed be a 9th generation console and be yet again underpowered compared to PS5 and Xbox Two. And yet again resulting in loss of third party support. I hope this is the successor to the 3DS rather than the WiiU.

The Cashier claimed that the game was going OOP. They're not selling it new anymore on their website either so I'm not sure if it's just a Gamestop thing or if Nintendo really did pull it out of print. I know they did do it with Pikmin 3.
