I am running the beta version of Xbox software (1410), which should be their October release.

In this beta, they have included DNLA access, so you can stream files from your computer on your XB1 using appropriate server software (like Plex Media Server)

Also .mkv files are viewable now too

well if you have a windows 8 pc you could stream movies to the xbox since launch using xbox video, thats what I've been doing.

Yes, but its something that neither of the new edition game consoles could do, so its worthy of an announcement.

its just funny that Sony promised DNLA first but MS ends up implementing onto their console first lol.

I would like that. Currently I use my PS3 to stream, but it would be nice not having to switch to it. More of a minor convenience in my case, but I would like it.

MAYBE :D

Cool, but not important really, my TV and BD player can do that. And how much is it for a cheap little media streamer now a days anyways? I used to use my PS3 as a media streamer several years back, it worked quite well with the PS3 media server. But it's just alot better to just have a PC hooked up to the TV.
