It's worth noting as well, the pc still has Wasteland 2 and Pillars Of Eternity to be released this year.

I want this game. I've heard nothing but good things about this game. I was a backer for Wasteland 2, so I should be getting that by the end of the year. These are the reasons I go back and dabble in PC games.

We get it, you don't like RPGs. No one is forcing you to play Divinity. It scored a 9 because it's one of the best RPG games to have come out In a long time.

If RPGs aren't your thing, it's ok. Fighting games and MOBA isn't my cup of tea, but I still acknowledge good games when they are released. Just don't make the presumption that your subjective tastes represent your audience as a whole.

Don't care.. whether it gets 9 or over 9000 not into turn bases games... the game's good though..

I don't get why people hate turn based games, they offer far more options, freedom, are easier to balance and can be made a lot more challenging.. Anything is better then the real time pause system.. Even games like BG2, it was a mess in, where quite a few fights turned into cluster fvcks with no real positioning.. The dragon fights were notorious for this kind of sh!t.

For me, a game needs to justify being turn based. For games like Divinity, XCOM, and Advance Wars, there's a legitimate reason for them being turn based: their battles systems are complex enough that you need the slow, methodical pace that turn based allows for. But if game's battle system is simplistic, where you primarily mash the attack button constantly (ie, 95% of all turn based JRPGs), then I see no reason for the game to be turn-based.

Amazing. I wonder if consoles will even get an RPG this gen that remotely stacks up to this one in terms of content...

There will be good games on both consoles but when it comes to RPGs , PC is always the best choice . Most so called RPGs on consoles are action games with some RPG elements , nothing more . The only thing that comes close is Demon Souls but it lacks deep storyline , which makes it incomplete package , unlike games like D:OS , Witcher and other computer RPGs .

So odd that you write console RPG's off as action games with RPG elements then quote the Witcher as a true computer RPG when it is indeed an action game with very vague RPG elements in fact it's less an RPG than most console games I've played.

Planescape Torment, BG, Skryim (rubbish game but it IS an RPG) Divinity Original Sin fantastic game and completely true to CRPG legacy. Witcher 1 and 2 hack and slash arcade games with great writing and graphics and zero depth in actual gameplay IMO.

My only gripe with this game is that there are only two companions I can get right now. Everything else it does pretty well. I hope the devs start releasing more companions soon cause I don't like the current two right now.

Quick advice for new single players: SET BOTH CHARACTERS TO NO AI!

My girl Scarlet won an argument and made me a murderer before I even set foot in town, all because she got annoyed with a couple of drunk and not really hostile guards.

Furthermore, she's been quite happy ruin my quests. She did'nt wanna join the fabulous five, she disagrees with my riddle answers and she does'nt feel like escorting people, I've been ASKED to find ;)

I chose "Rascal" for her but so far, she just seems somewhat homicidal and a little mean spirited.

But damn, is the world engrossing! First town does'nt look particularly exciting, but it's so.... Interactive! The teleportation spell has huge potential, just don't kill your party members with it :)

There is another teleportation spell in the air magic tree that does not injure anyone as well, so that one can be freely cast without worrying about killing party members. Pretty useful for teleporting your 2h warrior next to an army of enemy archers.

nice. I hope spellbooks become more redily available, because as far as Cyseal is concerned, it seems like you're mostly stuck with what you start with.

Edit: What I meant to say was that the availble spells seem to be mostly stuff I already had or lvl 7+ books :) Not that I need them atm, the game seems to be very well balanced and my only really hiccup is Scarlet occasionally working against me; and that actually has it's own charm too.

No, it won't. Its the writing.

While Obsidan's Pillar's of Eternity may be better written, it will still be a Baldur's Gate clone and Obsidian is bound for bugs, so that game will have a tough time. Wasteland 2 looks like a great competitor for Divinty.

However Dark Souls II and Dragon Age Inquisition will be too much for Divinty to overcome. DS2 is critically acclaimed, one of the highest MCs this year, and loved by Gamespot. A solid DLC run and its a strong competitor. DA: Inquisition however has all the ingredients to win...production values, character writing, and a late release date. Sorry for Larian, its Bioware vs FROM Software this year.

He just gets a weird boner from Bioware. Never mind that Dragon Age has one of the most generic, boring fantasy settings in any modern RPG (one of the main reasons I couldn't get into the first one), and never mind that Dragon Age 2 had horrendous dialogue and that Inquisition's has a combat system that doesn't know what it wants to be (because that ALWAYS turns out well)....nope nope nope, Dragon Age is gonna be the best RPG EVER!!! I'll be pleasantly surprised if Inquisition is even good enough to get an 8, let alone beat what are likely far superior games such as Divinity and DS2.

Edit: Just did a little digging. Apparently my spidey sense was right on the money:

According to Matt Goldman, art director for BioWare's Dragon Age II, being generic was an actual design principle for the Dragon Age: Origins art team. While Goldman didn't direct the art department that worked on Origins, he's familiar with the instructions the former team was given: "Actually, the design creative was 'it's generic,' which isn't the most inspirational direction that you could give a team."

As for DaS2: Super Smash Bros Brawl had a GS score of 9.5 and a Metascore of 93. Didn't even get nominated for GOTY. Also both D:OS and DaS2 have Gamespot scores of 9 (one even got rereviewed to a 4).
As for Inquistion: When you mount up your party members disappear until you demount, hugging is in on the other hand. If this is a sign of BioWare's investment priorities, Divinity: Original Sin has nothing to worry about.

First of all, Obsidian just showed us this year that they are more than capable of making a very clean launch, with the South Park game. Not that it's an amazing game necessarily, but it's pretty much bug free which is what really matters. PoE has big community funding and a solid team behind it with regular updates to players and a beta for backers. There's no mandatory release from publishers either, they can launch whenever they want as long as the funding holds up.

Second of all, lol DA: I. They put a lot into it, sure, and it has a solid chance of being better than DA2 by a ton, but I highly doubt it is going to be any better than the great RPGs of this year. Especially considering you ran out of praise so fast you had to cite it's delays as if they're a bullet point.

And yet if you have read my posts in the past, that was my criticism of Dragon Age Origins, as well as it recycles from other Bioware games. But that doesn't mean it didn't cream Demons Souls in most gaming sites and publications for RPG of the Year in 2009. Gamespot got it right in 2009.

Unless it has a major flaw, or a buggy release, DA: I is the odds on favorite to win RPG of the year, whether you like it or not. Dark Souls II is second. If DAI flops, it will probably be Dark Souls II that is the favorite.

And really, Divinity has some significant flaws that may hold it back from competing with the big boys. Its too obtuse for its own good and its writing holds it back. This could mean that Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity can top it, games that have much better writing teams, as well as taking on Bioware's elite character writing team. And by focusing a bit on writing and not being great, it could lose to a game that does not focus much at all on it like Dark Souls II.

And really, every developer should be thankful TW3 got pushed back because that game would have been the odds on favorite to win RPG of the year.

Here is the thing, unless it flops, put money into the big hyped production winning. They usually do.

Lol as if. Bioware is has been in a rut. It's this vs Darksouls 2 this year.

You're pretty much the only one who thinks so bio drone.

Face facts here, every Bioware game, except for Dragon Age II and perhaps Jade Empire, has won the most RPG of the year awards the year it was released.

Just as I have to face facts that Bethesda won the most GOTY awards in their respective years of their last three releases, even though I think they are highly flawed.

I'm finding this game hard to get into, there's not much hand holding so I'm having a hard time trying to figure it all out being the dumb shit I am.

It might be to old school for my liking, I'll give it another go when I get time I really want to get into this game I just need to show more patience.

@cfisher2833: Between 4 and 5 looks like a penis.

I'm not even far enough into the game for that to be useful to me, I got off the beach wondering around the cave and gave up. I'll try again soon and actually put some effort into it.

Yeah, you are. If you just got to the beach after doing the tutorial dungeon, you're in zone one. Follow the path westward until you get to the town.

is it possible to skip the tutorial, first control of my characters I got was on the beach, I might have skipped it by accident. I'll start again I wasn't happy with the classes I picked anyway.

Yes, the tutorial is completely optional. If you want to do it (and I recommend you do if it's your first time), after your first initial battle, there will be a temple door immediately to the right. That's the tutorial dungeon.

I think I'm in the tutorial dungeon now, I'm in the room were you were meant to sneak past two summoners, I got caught and killed them. There are two pressure plates when I get both my party members to stand on it I cant figure out what opens or changes to enable me to progress.

There are two separate rooms with plates, one earlier and one later. Earlier one you need to move shit onto them. Later one you need to split your party up. The tutorial window on the minimap will tell you how to do both of those if you're not sure.

The tutorial dungeon is linear, you can miss a couple tutorials and still finish but you can't miss the plates and complete it. If you've only found one set, you won't find the next until a bit further up, and it gives you a tooltip each time you reach a set.
