Digital sharing and marketplace on its way on Xbox One

Cant wait for this, every game I bought so far is digital.

If they do it right it will be awesome and I think they have learned a lot, so chances it will be.

Family Sharing was only recently introduced on Steam as is also coming.

Has anyone used Steam sharing yet? I tried to set it up with my brother who lives 3000 miles away from me, and neither of us could see each others' games. However, my brother could see his own games when logging onto one of his two household accounts. I'm wondering if it's restricted to computers on the same network which would suck.

I hope the Xbox One sharing isn't like that. Even if I personally lost access to a game for the time I let someone else play a game from my library, I'd enjoy being able to loan out my digital games. Or potentially playing a multiplayer game with someone with one copy of the game, or someone could get "extended demos" of games that their friends play (maybe they could play the full game for 1-3 hours).

Of course I'd also like there to be zero limit on sharing games within a household across multiple systems, but I want more than just that.

You want to delight me beyond my expectations? Drop the prices for digital games to $49.99 and I'll never buy a retail copy again.

This is one of the reasons I went all digital. Just think of a way to sell digital games or share them in an ecosystem that benefits the consumer. Can't wait.

@treedoor: I've gave my friend access to my games via family sharing. He lives about 10 minutes away from me. Works fine for him.

I think the steps we used were...

- Log into each others' account on your own computer

- Log back into your own account

- Steam > settings > family > authorize accounts

I may be missing a step.

Screw digital console games. I only buy them cheap and only when there is no physical alternative.

This is a baby step in the right direction, but I'll reserve my final judgements on this baby step for when it actually materializes.

Ultimately, the digital system is dependent on modern support and as a collector that looks years in the future, I don't see the Xbone One, PS4, or Wii U ecosystems lasting forever which jeopardizes my collection.

Not to mention, digital games don't have a collector's value.

Man people, no one forces you to buy hard/soft copy software. Relax, prices on digital come down just look at what is happening on the 36o. There are some smokin deals for someone that is just getting a 36o. Not to mention even on The One TR and Theif are getting cheaper on a digital basis because sales are soft.

What I did was:

• Sign into my account on his computer
• Then go to "View" - "Settings" - "Family" and then click "Authorize this computer"

After doing that he signed out of my account and back into his account and my library was available to him.

Loaning games sounds good but unless there's a way to get more value out of games then i'll stick to retail. If they drop the price enough for it to be cheaper than buying and trading in later then they've got me.

Very unlikely. Publishers are moving towards digital because it allows them to increase their share of the $60 price tag.

We did that, and our accounts show up as authorized in each others' Steam settings.

There must be some setting that's not clicked somewhere......but where?.....

Oh I know. I'm just wishfully thinking that since they are getting more profits they could pass that on in the form of savings to customers but lets be honest, that will never happen.

That's funny I've been sharing games on PSN since '06 and with Steam I could always gift games. Welcome to last gen lems.

But you cannot share games on PS4 the way you used to on PS3. And you can do it on X1 exactly the same as you could on PS3.

Didn't he say that MS are still trying to work it out. All they're saying right now is that they're trying to get some of those features people had positive reactions to back. In fact they said at the time they may come back.

yes that's correct. i remember reading Marc Whitten's comments shortly after the reversal. essentially, they still plan to deploy the cloud-centric features, like family sharing.

thing is, i heard about family sharing way back when they first announced it. unfortunately, despite my best efforts to learn about it - i couldn't. why not? well because the information wasn't made available to me.

and that's really what I'm after. concrete information about how its going to work. i feel that's what we should have received when they first announced it.

I'm think lower then that. $30-$35 at the most for newly released digital game. I still think $50 is well overpriced. Using digital, developer won't even need a publisher except for marketing purposes. With the money they save, they could market the game themselves. The most I've ever paid for a digital games was $40. I still though that was too much. I still think they have a ways to go with digital, unless they can get prices like what's on Steam.

Even though my bro and I are already game sharing our digital games, having my other sibling and friends join in just makes it sweeter. With price drops and sales on games on top of that, this is good news for this console. You can't game share with different PS4s, I hope they follow next.

It made me laugh when lems hailed the used game DRM as "beneficial for the industry" while neglecting to remember the 10 person sharing program.

Sony is also adding a web tool that finally allows you to deactivate your account from old systems, saving you the hassle of a long customer support call in the event that your PS3 fails and you need to recover your games on a new console.

Funny how you people know so much about the PS3 yet you don't know you could share PSN games with up to 5 PS3.?

So yeah welcome to last gen MS,whats next cross game between PC and consoles or mods.? Oh wait they announce they would support mods already but i don't see one yet,when again the PS3 did it last gen,but but but XBL is better,and to think PSN was free last gen.

It was abused on the PS3 which is why the number of people allowed was cut down, it will be abused with this.
