Yes, thread 10023523 on this, and to be honest, I'm not going to do too much in the OP to set it apart. I'll try to add more in the comments and responses.

Did you find Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception disappointing in either or both gameplay and story departments? The reason I felt like making this again because I feel like I ragged on this game way too much for its story as I do for other games. I'm not sure why either, seeing as I don't have too high standards for story in video games nor did I ever expect something from a series that never had a great story or pretended to.

But something about this game just gets to me. I can write scores of paragraphs on how much the story gets to me by how bad it is. Why? I'm not sure

A lot of the issues are summarized here quite well:

The story was very cliche and the gameplay was good. Level design was decent as well. Inferior to U2 in every way except maybe graphics, but I wouldn't call it disappointing because it was still a great game. Also, definitely not "seriously flawed."

Uncharted 3 is why I'm not too excited for the next one. Given that they have had more time, though, I think it will turn out well.

Nah, it's not as good as Uncharted 2, but still pretty awesome.

Certainly better than the trash Uncharted 1

All of them are overrated. They do nothing new. Or particularly well.

The first half of Uncharted 3 is easily, by far, the best part of the series. Especially, the first 3 hours. But then, in the 2nd half, it takes a turn into familiar territory.

Uncharted is at it's best when you're leaping through jungles, exploring new exotic areas wondering what will happen, engaged in dungeons, solving puzzles, .

But then the game degenerates into a cut-rate generic military shooter.

I found it kind of watered down when compared to the rest of the series.

well, the story of all the other games were as cliche too, UC is not trying to tell any deep or unique story. And to be honest, UC'2 graphics were much better than UC3's both on SP and even better when it came to the MP. I think ND had to gimp it a bit for the sake of 3D but UC3 was more technical on the set-pieces and in particular, the Cruise Ship chapter. Which to this date is literally the biggest and most impressive set-piece ever made.

Disappointing? Sure. Game was derivative as hell, and though I'm not really sure what, something was missing between it and Uncharted 2.

Flawed? Nah. Game is as mechanically sound as Uncharted 2.

I honestly wonder if it got a fair shake. My PERSONAL choices for GotG were Demon's Souls and Uncharted 2. I'm not sure where 3 could have gone from where 2 left off and it did not feel like it was at the same level truth be told. In and of itself, it was a damn solid game, though.

The story seems to have not been fully developed and especially so when compared to its previous iteration.

The gameplay itself is great.

Wait wait wait did he just said the boss fight in Uncharted2 was well done PFFFT yea I disagree with that big time. It went on to freaking long and wasint a bit of fun. If anything Uncharted3 did it better cause it dragged on less. so it was less painful. I enjoyed all uncharted games but to be honest all the villians in the games never made any real impact. The old lady in 3 might have been good but she wasint developed enough for me. I keep coming back for uncharted for the heroes and the adventure itself.Whill all 3 games are cliche in story that doesint really hamper it since I love the cast and want to see them more.I never got the whole cliche=bad thought process since everything now and days is cliche.

I started UC2 followed by UC3. I initially preferred UC2. But, the farther I got into both games, I leaned more and more towards UC3 (once I got past the village in UC2) and ended up finishing it first. The ending of UC3 was disappointing. But, I loved the chapters leading up to it.

No.

Uncharted 2 was a HUGE step-up from Uncharted 1, Uncharted 3 was only disappointing because it didn't really improve upon Uncharted 1. But it was still a far better/more polished game than the 1st Uncharted.

Agree with this.

It was fun at times, but mostly mediocre.

I felt it was too scripted, whereas UC2 had a perfect balance.

The story in the first 2 was also WAY better than 3. it was so hard to follow.

Still love the series though, looking forward to what they do in UC4

Eh, I played UC 2 a couple years after it came out, and found it very underwhelming after all the praise it got.

I went into UC3 with pretty low expectations as a result and ended up enjoying it more than 2. Side by side it might not be as good but I felt it didn't rely as heavily on the crappy cover shooting.

I still remain somewhat baffled by ND's status as a god-tier developer though, their games are decent but nothing special.

I thought it was really disappointing. I LOVED UC2 and I was really hyped coming into 3 and it was a let down. The story was completely forgettable, the gameplay was somehow worse and it had one of the worst levels from this gen. Thats why Im skeptical about Uncharted 4, I think ND has run out of ideas for the franchise.

Maybe lm crazy but there are a lot of things l liked about it better than Uncharted 2. Sure the story etc, was a bit corny and not as good as U2s, but lets not pretend like uncharted 2s story was something spectacular. The set pieces and stuff were clunkier too but thats pretty much it.

l liked the level design and pacing in 3 a lot more. The pacing in 2, l was in a lot of levels that l hated for a lot longer than l thought was necessary in uncharted 2. 3 moves at a brisker pace and the levels are a bit more open, more variety in the design and had some more interesting vertical set ups going on.

I had no expectations, because the series is about flash over substance. I came away feeling that the gameplay was mediocre, but the campaign was ok for a one time playthrough.

Its got a few issues, particularly at the beginning and end of the game but the middle portion is terrific. ND does set pieces better than almost every developer. I was happy with all three games. I'm not sure where they go from here.

I don't understand, I really don't get it. I played Uncharted 1 and 2 and it was absolutely average. The 1st game was understandable, this was early in the PS3's life and they really needed some games so I'm not shocked that game was so well received, but Uncharted 2 had pretty much the same issues as Uncharted 1, all they did was add new features on top of it, intstead of fixing it. Maybe people think their good because they don't play many other games. Also congradulations to Naughty Dog for finaly for making a good game, The Last Of Us,

Uncharted is one of the big surprise hits, and I don't mean for me but in general. I found nothing really extraordinarily enjoyable from either 1 or 2. The shooting was just terrible and about as un-fun as I've ever played, and the puzzles where more of a chore than anything because of how easy yet time consuming they were.

The graphics and level design were good though.

edit: I guess I should have probably said something about 3 (because that's what the thread was about) and no I did not find it disappointing...because I didn't play it.

UC3 was an amazing game, its only problem was being the sequel to UC2 which is imo one of the best games I ever played !!

Lets see what ND does with UC4 !!

what let me down a bit was that this story was too focused on Nate. Sully was supposed to be part of it but then he gets kidnapped and becomes irrelevant. On top of it everybody was so negative about this adventure... Except for Sully but... He was kidnapped... So it was Drake versus Marlowe's secret organization all by himself and it felt kind of dark instead of adventurous and epic. ;(

I remember at the beginning of the game when Chloe, Charlie, Sully and Nate were walking toward an abandoned garage. That scene was like some Ocean's Eleven type of shit and I was like: this game's gonna be good! But then, 1 chapter later everybody turned tales and left Nate and Sully alone. I kept hoping that they would come back as a cliche twist to help Nate when he was in great need but it never happened. They were gone for real those damn cowards, even Elena was out of the loop till the very last cut-scene. =/

Uncharted 3 was too personal and kind of dark, and that was boring.

The online multiplayer of UC3 was super epic though. I didn't like it at first because I felt overwhelmed with so much customization and options but once I gave it a second chance and understood the system like the buddy system and stuff I was hooked. I'll most likely will continue playing the MP till Uncharted 4 comes out.

Gameplay: Better and more advanced than Uncharted 2, mechanically. Many creative moments. Melee wasn't as in depth as I would have liked. The AI was was relentless (often in a frustrating way, lol).

Puzzles: Best in the series, the game really shined here.

Pacing and Story: Enjoyed the bromance of Drake and Sully very much. Drakes past was a well implemented story mechanic. Things seemed very rushed once you finished the incredible desert scene, after crashing into the Rub al Kali. Overall, Uncharted 2 has much better pacing.

Graphics: Best in the series, of course.

Multiplayer: Gem. It didn't have that incredible 'classic' feeling that Uncharted 2 had, partly due to Uncharted 2 being one of the freshest experiences around. Though what ND included, and how they continually updated the game, was absolutely phenomenal. It's content packed, balanced (from my experience), plays unlike any other multiplayer game, and has some extremely creative features.

---

I hate to use this term since it's incredibly cliche and perhaps lame, but it just fits when comparing Uncharted 2 to Uncharted 3. Uncharted 3 didn't have that 'magic' feeling. LOL, can't express it any other way than that.

Yes, the MP is insanely good.

And I totally agree with the game stripping the amazing cast. Chloe, Elena, and Cutter (who was a good new personality), should have all stuck around more. Their departure was abrupt and made me depressed. Drake shines when he has a great supporting cast around him. It brings out the facets of personality more.

ND takes criticism well. After hearing the disappointment with Uncharted 3, with the success of The Last of Us to follow, and 3 years of development without needing to program from scratch, the Uncharted 4 team will probably surprise the shit out of us.

I think the bar fight was kinda wack as well. Melee wasn't good enough to capture me there. I liked the premise of the game beginning that way though.

But your comment on there being too many movie games confuses me. Do you mean the games that Naughty Dog makes, or games in general? Take a look out there, gaming is more diverse than it's ever been :).
