Sony anouncement was majior. but was it enough to win next gen... or will people who know nothing jus go with what they know???

I am sure word of mouth will change some things, but will spread far enough?

To me both companies CONTINUE to show their TRUE colors.

Sony to regain PS2 days in the gaming world.

It already did since feb 21st.

No one wins a gen until the end. What Sony have is a good start, a complete reversal from the PS3 and a step in the right direction.

Microsoft has: Casuals (kids/families), CoD people, Sports people, movie people, fitness people... That is to say that have most of the market.

Sony has the JPRG weaboos and a couple fanboys...

I need to figure out what game I'll be pre-ording first... Diablo III? Watch Dogs? Killzone? Knack :P

Yes, yes they did.

This time, seven years ago, most of us thought the PS3 was dead in the water. And while it didn't win this generation, it definitely came back with an impressive showing. So I'd say it's definitely too early to tell.... ...that being said, unless MS makes some major moves before the holiday season, the PS4 will be the first console I buy in the next generation.

$100 less, a 150% more powerful hardware, no DRM, no online checking, can still rent, and trade in used games with no fees, no camera required to be connected. Sony is reluctantly finally charged for online due to MS's BS bribing tactics to DLC and more. Stop supporting MS and gaming will be kept to a minimum cost with Sony leading the gaming industry. And PS4 includes a mic and x1 doesn't.

It's probably too early to say. It really is looking that way at the moment.

it's probably too early, but in my opinion they did indeed
#21 Posted by ShaineTheNerd (1345 posts) -

I have been playing the Xbox 360 this whole gen. No PS3. I have amassed almost 50,000 gamerscore... and now I am seriously contemplating a PS4.

I'm not a cow, but...launch games are launch games, there will be many more. The real point is the console itself. Better hardware, for cheaper, with none of the draconian DRM policies? I'm failing to see the downside.

System Wars might as well shut down. Not even a competition.

Did Sony confirm Kingdom Hearts 3 for PS4? Then there's your answer.
#25 Posted by MarcRecon (6106 posts) -

The thing that will at least give them the advantage in the beginning is keeping the gamer first...not to mention no restrictions on used games, decent price and no 24hr surveillance

Sony just shot themselves in the foot. They may have won the epeen gamer award for popularity, but by doing a 180 on the used game problem just to win popularity point...they effectively snubbed third party publishers and their developers...as well as accepted massive losses.

Dont forget, retailers dont restock new games when they have a ton of used games to sell. They make more money off used. This means Sony will only make profit for the first month or two of a games release before its all over shelves with a used sticker on it, meaning they have to keep pumping put more lower quality games just to get that 1-2 month profit period. It also means there is less incentive to make single player games.

Well, there isn't to much more to count...all the cards from both companies are on the table.

nah i dont think so.....microsoft had a great line up of exclusives. but i did think they won a major battle. the war will still go on.

sony had some nice exclusives too with second son and 1886

#30 Posted by THETRUEDOZAH (2992 posts) -

PC won this e3.  It's the least expensive, most customizable, most powerful, and still has free online play.  I fell on the ground laughing at how similar the two consoles look, somebody was copying somebody else's papers, it looks like.  all valve has to do is announce half life 3 and left for dead 3 exclusive to PC and steambox, and it's gg.

#31 Posted by ConanTheStoner (6643 posts) -

The bulk of the show had me bored.  Really it sucked.

But my god did they pull it off at the end!  If I had to guess a winner right now, it would definitely be Sony.

they actually need the popularity because the lemmings had a bigger attach rate. developers always go where the money is. all those exclusives that ms payed for isnt going to matter jack if the gamers move back to cow territory

You bring up a valid point but I hardly see it as shooting themselves in the foot...Sony took a step in the right direction so stop being in denial about it.

How is it a step in the right direction? For who? Gamers need the developers to make them games. You cannot have games without the developers. So when you send the message that you dont care about the biggest issue developers and third party publishers face, you are NOT taking a step in the "right" direction. All Sony is going to do is encourage the third party publishers to side with Microsoft. Its going to encourage developers to not release on hard copy but rather lower budget digital titles. Its going to encourage more DLC which fills in missing content. DLC is an invention to offset the losses from the used game industry. It is not pro-consumer. What happens when you get more Mass Effect like DLC which leaves out part of the game unless you cough up more money just to unlock it (since its already on the disk)? Is that pro-consumer? Sony shot themselves in the foot because they will LOSE money for every console sold. They dont make profit on the hardware, they make profit on the games. So they will have to sell more games to make back the losses incurred from selling the hardware at a lower cost than what it cost to manufacture it. After they break even, they will have to start selling more games. Now what happens when those third party developers dont have an interest in making such PS4 games? What happens when they continue to keep alive the used game industry which is factually worse than piracy? No they shot themselves in the foot and to recoup losses they will find other ways to get money out of you, the gamer. You wont be smiling then. Btw I am not just a gamer, but also an artist that makes assets for games. You probably wont understand the damage being done until you are on the other side of the fence. Dont forget, it is not the developer who is greedy for wanting to get paid for every sale a game incurs. It is the gamer who wants to save a few bucks by giving money for a used title, money that goes to a middle man that has no interest in funding the developer. Sony hurt the industry as a whole with their underhand move tonight, make no mistake. This has long term negative implications.

Was I the only one who thought Sony's press conference kinda sucked and that Microsoft's was very satisfying? If not for the price there would be no question that the X1 would have the edge.
#39 Posted by Celtic_34 (1398 posts) -

i dont see where microsoft succeeded anywhere.  sony is better in all facets.  cheaper.  more powerful console.  no drm.  cloud gaming and tv is being done but being done right.  support for indie devs.  support for older hardware.  Support for distributors like redbox.  playstation eye was barely mentioned and is not nearly as intrusive.   very few are interested in kinect and sony gets this.  the controller has a touchpad and nice new buttons.  The console itself is sleaker in its design.  the games were just slick to me and looked really nice.

microsoft has lost imo. IT's sad because they invested so much into this but they bit off more than they can chew.  They are more at home on the pc.  If Microsoft is going to succeed they need to get back to their roots imo.

Consoles are for sony and nintendo

pcs are for microsoft and apple

smartphones/tablets are for apple and everyone else

tvs are for sony and everyone else.

It's really the way it should be.  Microsoft tried to expand their market share but theyar e failing miserably.  For a next gen console it's everything i don't want.  microsoft could lower the price, back off drm but they've already made a laughing stock out of themselves and pissed off a lot of people..  It's too late.

I'm happy here playing the ps3 with all the new games coming and then will happily plop down $400 when the ps4 comes out.  There is nothing wrong with the playstation and i don't see any reason why i would go that direction with microsoft again and deal with those headaches.

Exactly... most launch games do suck... why should traditions change? Thank you SONY. You will be richly rewarded :)

#41 Posted by Mickeyminime (1145 posts) -
Back in Feb it was a big maybe as not showing the PS4 was going to make so many people talk about it. The Microsoft pulled back a month with its conference and suddenly Microsoft got owned by a long shot so yes, i would have to say Sony won even before Microsoft revealed the Xbox. Sony's E3 was ok until the very end where the whole E3 exploded
#42 Posted by ShaineTheNerd (1345 posts) -
You know what I find just goddamn hilarious? The Xbox One gets revealed; gets trash talked about looking like a VCR. Gets made fun of for incorporating TV. Cows alway joke about the "pay-to-play" aspect. Say the Kinect is stupid and should be optional. BUT THEN SONY REVEALS THE PS4. Looks almost IDENTICAL to the X1, except for the rhombus shape -- which makes it so much better. TV? It's so awesome now! It's gamer-related TV, so it's fine! It's not like that crappy Xbox Halo garbage! Pay-to-play? It's understandable. I don't mind paying for PS Plus. It pays for itself by offering all of the free games it does. Fan boys are seriously some of the most incredibly stupid, ignorant, hypocritical people on Earth. Both systems look nice. If you're a gamer, get them both.
#43 Posted by ShaineTheNerd (1345 posts) -
Obviously 900 dollars is hard to come by (what with a the gas prices and such), but I'm saying down their get them both. Don't hate. Pick what's more comfortable to you, and play your games. Respect one another, and eventually get all the systems and enjoy all the gaming goodness of the world.

no thanks, as a gamer, i'd rather not support MS at this point, If they retract their policy on used games, then I'd consider.

So, you don't want to encourage the gaming industry to pursue the anti consumer measures M$ is introducting to the Xbone?

You want to be able to freely lend your games, sell your games to whoever, rent games, and buy used games from any outlet?

#46 Posted by Ballroompirate (23484 posts) -

It's a toss up between Nintendo and Sony (console wise), have to wait tell Nintendo shows off at their expo (hoping the new Smash and Zelda are amazing). Personally I hope the big 2 duke it out like the good old days when they thrived off each other.

This problem isn't just confined to used games though, as I myself don't buy used games save for the occasional retro game I can't find any other way. I have the means, I believe in shaping the industry and supporting the developers I love...and that's what puzzles me about the corporate apologists that are actually consumers.

I LOVE to share games with my friends, exposing them to games they wouldn't EVER play otherwise. It's because of this that many of my friends, OUR friends played Halo or GeoW. Later, they are converted fans because of that exposure. Lending games is not problematic and limited. Borrowing games, nope. It's not just about used games, it's greater than that.

The problem is the anti consumer measures employed hurt collectors and their game collection value which is my major problem. In the end, if the Zune/music DRM M$ debacle and various other digital reliance devices have taught collectors anything this DRM designed to help corporations hurts the consumer in the end. When the next generation Xbox 2 releases, and the eventual support of the Xbone is cut...the current Xbone system will give us doorstops with memories. My 360? Not so much. Those games are still mine, and as a collector that is crucial to me.

There is a market of buyers that collect Vinyl records, Music CDs, comic books/books/graphic novels, Blu-Rays, DVDs, cars, Videogames, etc. There are advantages for instance to reading a comic book from a smartphone sure, but rest assured that comic is worth zero to collectors. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THE FULL PRICE FOR A DIGITAL COMIC BOOK. Obviously, companies will charge and sadly people buy without thinking. The Xbone is removing this collection and value element from consumers, and want suckers to still buy those games at top dollar. It's a rip off. The Xbone and the suits behind these despicable polices are asking US to not THINK OF THE FUTURE and what this means to the industry. I have the fast internet, I have the money for two Xbones (I bought two 360s at launch 2005, two Xbox's at launch 2001), I have the love for gaming, I have the gamerscore (I have over 100,000 Gamerscore and would love to continue that Xbox legacy) and Xbox history (including Xbox LIVE) I want transferred over...BUT, I can't abide by this obvious contempt they have for consumers.

The anti consumer DRM is one thing, but Factor in always on kinect, force bundled kinect I don't want, always online check ins, PRISM concerns, the direction of the companies 1st party output, and the fact it's now going to be the most expensive machine on the market. A lot of things to consider.

Perhaps, I should simply say:

Anyone who is for this anti consumer bullshit isn't a true gamer. They are now loyal to a brand and have lost the ability to think for themselves. Marketing power has overcome all rational thought. Yeah! I **** said it! You are okay with your industry crumbling. You can GTFO for all I care. Work on cars or something.

#49 Posted by dogfather76 (589 posts) -

I thnk that PS4 will sell more worldwide, but XB1 will sell more in the US (where I live). I might be wrong, but it won't really matter to me. I will get both the PS4 and XB1 because I know that they will both have games that I want to play over the next generation. If I want to play the best games that the industry has to offer, there really just isn't a choice for me. I will have to buy both.

I was going to write out a response but this pretty much nailed it. It's still all going to be about the games, and so far what they've shown is more in line with the PS3's launch than the complete domination of the PS2.
