DF: PS4 COD frame judder caused by framerate HIGHER than 60

Taking the affected clips and running them through our performance analysis tools, we expected the results to show clear frame-rate drops and small bouts of tearing, but surprisingly this wasn't the case at all, with the results showing us a

largely locked 60FPS bar one or two minor dips and a solitary torn frame

. Furthermore, when seeking through the footage in performance-affected areas we were confronted with unique frames on a consistent basis, thus indicating a 60fps update that we just didn't feel when playing the game.

So just what is going on? Well, a close look at our captures reveals that Call of Duty: Ghosts actually

runs at higher frame-rates than 60fps on a fairly frequent basis, despite the video output being limited to 60Hz

LOL PS4 version of COD runs at 1080p at higher than 60fps meanwhile Xbone version is struggling to get this game running at 720p. Xbone 720p is so underpowered, TLHBO.

So if console peasants have a 30 Hz screen would that mean they would have to suffer screen tearing? or does it drop it to 30 FPS?

Why not cap the frame rate at 58? Or just use vsync.

@freedomfreak: I thought you loved CoD. All of a sudden COD doesn't matter because it is 720p on Xbone. Meanwhile COD will be the highest selling game on both platforms lol. Keep living in denial that having the inferior version if COD doesn't matter.

Ghost IS a major downgrade compared to BO2. On top, it has less content and features. The XBone shouldn't have a problem running this on 1080 even with its spec.

Unless you have a set that displays above 60Hz then you aren't going to notice the difference.

And BTW, all TV's are 60hz, only monitors go higher. The 120hz/240hz advertised on TVs it's interpolated. In other words, a post-process to duplicate frames to minimize the judder effect on 24 frames films but not good for games because of the latency it causes.

If the TV refreshes at 60hz, then any framerate above 60fps shouldnt appear any different than 60fps. Ive played games at framerates above 100fps on my tv, and although they fluctuate wildly, I cant tell because its stays consistently above 60fps.

That isn't the point,the point is that lemming claimed superior version of Ghost based on faster frames,when in reality is the PS4 version the one with higher than 60 FPS which cause problems,suddenly the whole leaks about Ghost running at 90 FPS on PS4 and 15 FPS on xbox one make allot more sense, the xbox one had to take a huge hit in resolution to get 60 FPS,and the PS4 version even at 1080p still abode 60 FPS at times.

If this by any chance happen on the GPU market on PC,by now the brand with higher resolution and higher frames would be crown the king of graphics cards.

I've put probably 7 hours into Ghosts on my PS4 so far, and I love the framerate. They should release a patch that puts a 60FPS cap on the framerate so it doesn't jump above 60.

just as sony fanboys suspected all along it looks like ass because the ps4 is too good for cod.

somebody reduce those ps4 specs please so games can deal with the awesomeness of sony!

maybe if you pour a glass of water in it cod will run right.

Well this is a surprise. The only 4 reason why I believe that the PS4 is making a killing now is:

1. HYPE!!!!!!!

2. It was the 1st next-gen core console to launch. (I'm well aware that the Wii-U launched last year, but I wouldn't call the Wii-U a "core" console)

3. It is the most powerful next-gen console, which means that, more than likely, multiplats will look better on the PS4.

4. COST.

Because as far an "exclusive launch line-up" goes, the PS4 is HORRIBLY lacking.

OK this is what I think really happened.

Infinity Ward wanted to keep MS happy with lowest common denominator port parity. They lowered PS4 to 720p. But a side effect merged. The PS4 had surplus power and started rendering far more than 60fps, overshooting the 60HZ refresh rate of the hardware. This caused severe judder as completed frames had to be dumped in the trash. Missing frame judder is far more noticeable than a frame rate drop with all frames in tact.

The PS4 and XB1 are too far apart in terms of power for port parity.

Rather than admit they had deliberately gimped the PS4 and had to u-turn the abortion, they claimed it was an error that got past the quality control. I know COD is always full of bugs but the quality control are not that bad to miss a resolution drop from 1080p to 720p. Shame on you Infinity Ward, for sucking up to MS, gimping PS4 and then lying to cover it up. Unforgivable.

oh wow. glad i got a ps4 for the definite console version. cod:ghost is just too fun. no fps fan should miss on cod:ghost - it's just plain fun, it's running on 1080p with over 60fps! how awesome is that?
