New day, new Neo thread!

  • FFXV - Locked and stable frame rate (he mentions the engine isn't really that solid as it is -- I'd also personally like to see IQ improvements).
  • Witcher 3 - Improved frame rate in areas that are GPU bound (Crookback bog), improved frame rate in Novigrad, and improved texture quality, draw distances on foliage and water simulation.
  • GTA V - Improved object LOD's, higher precision shadows, and increased grass density.
  • Uncharted 4 - 30 ---> 60fps for SP and 900p ---> 1080p for MP.
  • Black Ops III (+ Killzone Shadowfall) - Locked 1080p 60fps for SP and MP.
  • MGSV Phantom Pain - Improved draw distance for lights, trees and terrain and 16x AF.
  • Driveclub - 30fps ---> 60fps (I'd also personally like improved AF and AA) .
  • Star Wars Battlefront - 900p ---> 1080p resolution.
  • Bloodborne (+ Dark Souls III) - 30fps ---> 60fps and getting rid of the frame pacing issues (it's not as radical as it sounds -- see video).
  • Until Dawn - Locked 30fps frame rate.
  • Lichdom Battlemage

I shamelessly stole the run down from gaf.

What do you people think? To me seems plausible except I'm not sold on the Bloodborne/ds3 as the game seems very cpu heavy on PC at least and pumping 30fps to 60fps would be almost twice the cpu demand

Pretty much all of them. With that kind of hardware 80% of games would be able to be 1080p/60fps at max or close to max settings.

but the thing is that 30fps -> 60fps is almost twice the cpu demand and neo is not going to double the cpu power by the looks of it

@howmakewood: Yeah Bloodborne/ds3 are more then usual on cpu but still mostly gpu problem. Neo cpu may just be enough to hit the target where the gpu can do its thing. Nioh perhaps a closer comparison is experimenting with resolution performance split. There budget pcs wouldn't cut it without some OC tweaks there probably basing on that. My guess Neo should be able to hit 60 with dips to 50. The engine needs improvements though. Looking at the list I would say they are close on point.

people with amd cpu's are strugling to hit 60fps on ds3 with good gpu's, the game doesn't utilize more than 4 cores and heavy impact on core 0, so you need high performance per core, something the Jaguar plain sucks at

The less cpu demanding devs manage to make their games, the better benefit from NEO

Yeah that's why I said the engine will need improvements particular on cpu multi thread utilization. You would still need a better gpu though. Even if removing cpu bottleneck All the way up to 380x is stil not getting you there. LINK

I take it back there is no way in hell Neo will run that engine at 60fps. At the current state yeah best those games will get will be just a stable 30fps.

@howmakewood: Most games are gpu bound and the scaling with CPU is not linear with the GPU scaling.

yes it's obviously possible on games not limited by the cpu, but given the ps4 neo specs we have got to speculate with indicate that increase in resolution/asset details is more likely than an increase in fps

O heck yeah, all them games sound great. Cant wait to play them on the worlds most powerful console PS4K. Godspeed on Star Wars Battlefront, get it ready in time for the new movie.

Yes... In games that are CPU bound....

no it's almost double cpu demand in all games, game being cpu bound or not doesn't change the fact that going from 30fps to 60fps hits the cpu

@howmakewood: A game being twice as demanding on the GPU doesn't necessarily mean it'll be twice as demanding on the CPU. It depends where the bottleneck occurs. GPU has more often than not a far bigger impact than CPU when it comes down to performance in games.

I never claimed otherwise, I've even explained how increasing asset quality and bumping up resolution doesn't hit cpu, tho that was in another thread

I would be happy with current graphics with 60fps... That won't happen, but it's nice to dream.

The current slate of PS4 games could use all the help they can get. I am all for Neo patches.

It's likely many PS4 games will get this treatment on Neo, as long as they are not CPU bottlenecked.

Depending on how much time it takes to release such a patch, I wouldn't be surprised if most devs don't bother doing it... except for Sony 1st party.

Witcher 3 Novigrad area is more cpu stressful not as much the gpu.

CPU benchmark done on Wccftech showed these type of results in Novigrad like

i3 4130 55 fps

i5 4690k 76fps

i7 4790k 88 FPS

FX6300 56 FPS

FX 8350 73 FPS

all done on Titan X
