DF: Mass Effect Legendary Edition: PS5 vs Xbox Series X/S Tech Breakdown

• Uses Unreal Engine 3 with updates to make use of modern features
• The game runs in Backward Compatibility mode on all three consoles. There's no next gen upgrade for now.
• All three consoles are identical
• PS5 and Series X runs with a dynamic resolution that tops at native 4K/60 and Series S runs at up to native 4K/30 in quality mode
• Series X is the only platform with a 1440p/120Hz mode
• Series X resolution drops are rare and hard to spot. PS5 was found to have the resolution drop to 1944p when a frame was dropped.
• Series X in performance mode can top out at 120Hz but drops below 100 in key areas like the citadel and Eden Prime in ME1 but are much smoother in ME2 and 3
• Series S in quality mode only drops to the 20's during a small section in Eden Prime but is steady everywhere else
• Series S tops out a 60fps in performance mode at 1440p and can drop into the 50's at times
• PS5 in quality mode isn't as smooth as Series X and hitches a lot more. A cutscene at the start of ME3 can tank the framerate to the 30's during an explosion
• Performance mode drops to 1440p and smoothes the framerate but can still drop in the same ME3 cutscene.

another easy xbox win

PC version runs great, but even on a 3080 I suffer drops to 45-50 on uncharted worlds in 4K.

This isn't surprising as the other thread said between Xbox One & PS4 saying Xbox One wins this round, so that's to be expected.

I notice very little dips with my RTX 2070 as I game in 1440p/144hz but to my surprise, I'm seeing dips if I go to ice planets from the looks of it. But still runs great.

@davillain-: It's the oddest thing, and it's literally when nothing is happening. Combat in the Mako? 60fps. Go for a drive? Dips. I've had it regardless of planets, but it's nothing game-breaking and still loving going back to play ME1 again.

It's clear that they prioritized the Xbox version with this game the moment they announced that the 120Hz mode was Xbox exclusive.

Glad I got it on Xbox anyway.

Why does my console of choice is having trouble running Unreal Engine 3 games? Why isn't the SSD helping the cpu and gpu at doing things and stuff?

Not just another win for XSX, but three in one.

Poor PS5, having to drop to 1440p just to get a stable 60fps in a 14 year old game. 😂

This simply shows how lazy EA programmers are, because with proper optimization for the PS5, it's already proven that games perform as well as or better than the XSX on the PS5.

@st_monica: Actually It's Sony's fault. They need to implement better BC so games actually utilize the hardware.

@mazuiface: I'm saying EA is lazy because it didn't optimize the game for the next gen. Also, the difference between each BC mode is very minor and will have no effect on gameplay.

Whoever buys this lazy port is a tool. No matter what console.

Too much hype for an overrated franchise.

120 fps mode is rough, wouldn't recommend such a variable experience. Aside from that, same experience to be honest, you are fine with whatever.

The game looks so damn bad 😂 This is a prime example why i never supported nor will ever support remasters. Literal cash grabs and nothing else.

Did they fix the crappy three color endings? Or was it six colors?

Still ME2 was such a good game.
