I would argue that the SMAA 1Tx used in Ryse is leagues above 4x MSAA. I'm expecting RAD to come up with another AA solution that is working in conjunction with 4x MSAA, otherwise the game will be horribly aliased. But, yes. The Order will certainly look more sharper than Ryse.
Nope. 4x MSAA > SMAA. Infamous SS uses SMAA 2Tx and it does look good, but it's post processed while MSAA is actual antialiasing which is processed before the pixels are drawn to screen.
Its process is irrelevant when the end result is poor. There are comparisons out there that show how significantly better temporal SMAA is than MSAA.
Here is why SMAA is better than MSAA:
Shader/specular anti-aliasing
smoothening of alpha textures
More samples
I'm sure there's more to it, I can't list them all. Regarding the difference between SMAA 2Tx and 1Tx, I don't know a lot. But I do know that all ghosting issues were fixed with 1Tx. So, technically, 1Tx is better than 2Tx.
SMAA is amazing, really. I'd say that this is the main reason behind Infamous' clean as crystal image quality.
Yep. SMAA looks fantastic. AND it's performance cost is significantly lower than MSAA. Of course nothing beats TXAA I'd say, but SMAA is just far superior to say FXAA while not taking much more performance.
Yeah. I'm glad that it's being featured in all new PC multiplatform games.
Its the benchmark on consoles and pc by the end of 2014 its still going to be the the best looking game on any system. If they had more than 11 months it wouldnt even been a contest. The most powerful console is the xbox one and it shows in the tech that it is using.

Ryse was already best looking game on consoles . Now , with the enhancements and higher resolution, Super Sampling etc , it is even better . It was always better looking game than any Playstation 4 exclusive currently available . And now it is better than original Xbox version as well (let alone PS4 games) . Don't know what's the point of this thread .
I don't think some of you guys here especially the TC know what and how performance scaling is.
For example to run a game on the same settings at a higher resolution and a higher frame rate would require you to have a GPU two to three times the power... Look below:
Ryse running at 1600x900 on a 7790 at 25-30FPS on X1... To get it to run on the same settings at 1920x1080 at 50-60FPS you would need basically a GTX 980.
This isn't fail... Its pretty much how scaling works, want to run the same game at twice the framerate?... You will need twice the power or more.
Didnt DF say Dead Rising 3 maxed on PC was the equivalent of X1? Because I've seen it on X1 and it looks way better running on my PC at max settings. I'll be taking DF's analysis with a pinch of salt.
they also said that 7770 can run constant 30fps "like the X1's version" but their own analisis back in december said X1 is 20-30fps mostly 20s
they are clearly trying to protect X1, they are doing it since early 2013 when they did a stupid comparison between 2 graphics cards and arguing that ps4 x1 gap would be minimal
The shadows in xbone version look about as good as normal settings but overall it's much blurrier and there's no light reflections in the ground as well. It's strange that the xbone version is that much blurrier, it seem to be more than just lower resolution that differs.
Not surprised, unless the devs go back and actually improve poly counts, textures, effects will it look better. PC is only gonna get higher resolutions and higher FPS and thats only if the port is done well. I have Ryse on the X1, it's an ok game that was pretty, nothing about it is gonna make me want to rebuy it again on PC. Bioware and Bethesda games are really the only ones that I have repurchases again on PC after buying the console versions. Now I am looking forward to seeing how GTA V turns out. Especially because I have 2 MSI GTX 970's being delivered to me Tuesday.
