According to legendary designer Tomonobu Itagaki, whose legacy is the Dead or Alive series, Devil’s Third is a system seller because fans will purchase a Wii U just to play it. In a recent interview Itagaki admitted he wasn’t concerned over fans asking for additional platforms and admitted that if they want to play the game, they’ll purchase a Wii U in order to do so.

I’m not concerned. Looking through my Facebook already I’ve seen a lot of comments that say, ‘I’m going to buy a Wii U just for this.’ I feel that ultimately gamers are the ones who make the future. I remember back when I took Dead Or Alive to the Xbox instead of the PlayStation – there was a certain Newsweek reporter who said, ‘Sony got steak and Xbox got hamburger.’ But what ended up happening is fans of my game came to the platform and it succeeded in the end. I wonder if looking back that reporter would still say the same thing now and if he’d be embarrassed about having written that article.

Are you excited about picking up Devil’s Third? The game has been in development since at least 2010 and when THQ went under as a publisher, the game was thought to be canned as it never went to auction like the restfof THQ’s IP holdings. With Nintendo stepping in to serve as publisher, Itagaki was finally able to finish his game as planned.

Seriously...I gotta a lotta love for the Wii U but this game looks like a train wreck.

He's probably wrong, but you have to love his confidence. I know I'm excited about this game. It is probably my most anticipated title on the Wii U, actually.

I'l devided when it comes to Devil's Third

On one hand I love the TPS mix with melee combat and the ability to climb everywhere, the horizontal level design... I mean how awesome is seeing a sniper shoot at you, climb up there and slash him in the face (please let me do that in battlefield :( )

On the other hand the game needs sooooooooooooo much polish, it's not even funny. I hope Nintendo can help with that.

The game looks so bad though. Last gen visuals, jerky mechanics and animations, stupid humor, etc.

There's ugly looking games and there's Devils Third. Brainless violence never sells and this game has nothing but it.

Wasn't a fan of the over the top in violence in No More Heroes, can't imagine I'm gonna like it in this game either

Shitty example. Brainless violence do sell but those games mostly have something addicting or revolutionary. Take CoD for example, brogamers are addicted to it. Or Gears had nothing else but violence in it but at the same time it revolutionized the cover mechanic and had a great multiplayer. What does Devils Turd have? It has **** all. The only reason this pos is even noticed is because its coming on wiiu, a system that is allergic to anything that isn't rated E. This reminds me of Mad World on Wii. Shitty game that is only noticed because it came on a system aimed at kids.

The game just looks fun. It won't sell because it is an over-the-top violent new IP on the Wii U, but I am going to play it and probably enjoy it immensely.

I think the game looks potentially awesome in terms of gameplay (though it clearly needs to be smoother).

Graphically it looks like something my cat coughed up a few nights ago.

I watched an E3 interview with Itagaki and he mentioned that the game is still very much a work in progress, especially in terms of AI. The AI looked completely brain-dead in the gameplay videos.

But I agree: the prospect of going from first person shooting-> 3rd person slicing necks with a katana-> taking cover-> climbing up a wall to flank your enemy etc. etc. is intriguing. If done right this game could be really dynamic and fun.

It's kind of sad that to see this guy still has this warped sense of self importance.

If his game really was going to have the power of a system seller he wouldn't have had to resort to publishing with Nintendo. The game is probably going to sell 500k tops

I own a Wii-U but this game definitely wouldn't sell me on it. Maybe a rental at best.

I enjoyed RE6, but I went in with low expectations.

This game just looks like something that would be awesome if they polished it up properly.

Itagaki is a cool guy, but he is very, very wrong here.

It's not warped at all. He's the best and he knows it.

But yeah, I totally get that. I enjoyed Ride to Hell, mostly because I was drunk. If I was high on weed, cocaine, and life, I would've probably really enjoyed it when they showed off Devil's Third.

I semi-enjoyed The Punisher. Mostly due to Travolta's funny lines. He kills his own wife by throwing her onto the tracks. His son asks where she is, and he just goes:

"She took the train."

That's too good. So funny, it's bad.
