[QUOTE="hoola"]

So it is confirmed that it will be an unoptomized game? From the videos and screens that I have seen it doesn't warrant a GTX 680 for the highest settings.

I need to upgrade my CPU. I got the FX 4100 thinking it wouldn't be much of a bottleneck, but i'm already getting low FPS in games I shouldn't be with a GTX 670 like Crysis 1 and 2 and GTA4 (20fps GTA4 medium settings), Guild Wars 2, Planetside 2 and a few others.

lostrib

Makes sense, planetside 2 and guild wars 2 are both limited by the CPU

GTA4 PC also depends on CPU so yeah that's probably it.

The only thing that seems weird to me is why is he playing in medium when the GTX670 has enough VRAM for maxed out and GTA4 is very light graphics wise. When the CPU is the problem and not the GPU you can go from low to highest on GTA 4 and get a very low impact performance wise. :?

On the other hand it's GTA 4 on PC and even the patches that fix performance are dubious. Some people need 1.4 others need the latest 1.7, and a few are f***ed either way. :P

Anything is possible. 360 was pretty damn beasty when it first released. I doubt it though.

Well yah I mean the minimum specs for Far Cry 3 is a GPU that released 2 years after 360.

still find hard to accept that a 6 years old GPU(like the 8800) play games with better graphics and performance than 360/ps3?

(link) LOL even a ATI x1950 pro that is 2 times slower than the 8800GTX play games like crysis2 with slightly better graphics and performance than 360/ps3, well that is a humiliation right there

BLOPS 2 is DX11 only, WAS YOU READY FOR DA GRAFFIX OF BLOPS 2?

True it hardly means anything. If anything it just means that they are elevating the PC standard not to really elevate quality since clearly the games are on consoles and running on lower settings and tech, but to simply work less on PC since they will have less stuff to deal with.

Actually I was surprised by this when my bro game his old 88000gts. It stills plays games at around console settings and usually with higher resolution and/or performance. The only problem is that it runs very hot and probably is wasting some electricity.

Well it matters cause it's a +3 year old card and not 2...

GPU has had 2 generation of succesors... that's about 30-40% increase in power.

Also, you didn't get the best of the best at that time either.

Today you card is barely even worth 100$...

The 8800 series is more than 3x the performance of consoles.

It can play games at quite a bit higher settings than a console would.

I know because I have an older PC with an 8800gt.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/12/03/these-are-the-advanced-graphics-settings-crysis-3-will-have-high-res-textures-at-launch-confirmed/

Following reveal of Crysis 3s system requirements over the weekend, Ive received confirmation from EA and Crytek of which precious secondary settings well be able to tweak in the game. If you remember, Crysis 2 launched with an anemic four tweakable options: v-sync, game resolution, HUD bobbing, and a general quality setting. A patch after release expanded these, and fan-made utilities helped out, but the good news is that EA and Crytek arent shipping Crysis 3 in the same state.

Heres what youll see if you click on Advanced Graphics Options in Crysis 3.

  • Game Effects
  • Object
  • Particles
  • Post Processing
  • Shading
  • Shadows
  • Water
  • Anisotropic Filtering
  • Texture Resolution
  • Motion Blur Amount
  • Lens Flares

You are delusional if you think u think Far Cry 3 looks better on a 8800GT. I can't even tell the difference between Ultra Settings and a 360 at the same resolution.. Even with both images upscaled to 2048x1536

Noteworthy among these is the inclusion of high-resolution textures at release. Also different from Crysis 2s current advanced settings menu are discrete settings for lens flares and anisotropic filtering. Below, a quick chat on the topic with Marco Corbetta, Technical Director on Crysis 3.

PCG: Why did you launch Crysis 2 on PC with only a handful of graphics settings?

Marco Corbetta: On Crysis 2, a decision was made to focus on console, launching the title on all platforms simultaneously and bringing the same console UI menu experience to PC, but with a plan to release a dedicated DX11 PC version right after launch of the multiplatform version. Although most PC settings were already available at launch, just not directly exposed through the menu, the DX11 PC-focused version had all settings available directly in the menu and additional features like hi-res textures, tessellation etc. However, getting out the DX11 version with all the features included that we didnt have time to develop while working on the console versions, took much longer than expected.

Is there any specific technical area of the game thats been enhanced since C2?

Corbetta: As I mentioned, Crysis 3 will already ship with hi-res textures, advanced graphics settings, tessellation and DX11 support. Additional tech areas that have been enhanced since Crysis 2 are: AI navigation system, animation system, water, fog volumes, cloud shadows, POM, AA, cloths, vegetation, particles, lens flares and grass.

For Crysis 3, the past year has involved a lot of performance and memory optimization work on many areas and for all platforms, as well as work on the rendering side. One of our big goals was to improve image quality, and a lot of work went into developing several DX11 based anti-aliasing techniques for PC, which means gamers will now be able to pick their favoritethis is relatively involved on a deferred-based engine, since it involves selecting every technique and accessing multi-sampled buffers, versus the usual flip the switch approach. On top of an improved tessellation system weve also introduced character/vegetation tessellationand since tessellation performance was still not optimal for the level of detail we wanted to achieve, we also did research into different areas and introduced what we called Pixel Accurate Displacement Mapping for macro details with nice real-time self-shadowing.

Can you describe the technology driving the grass system in C3? What distinguishes your tech from other games grass rendering?

Corbetta: This tech allows us to visualize thousands of individual blades of grass, and is very cost and memory efficient as we can even achieve good results on older console hardware like 360 and PS3. One of the most important things is that this technology is improving gameplay. For example, you can see AI aliens running through the fields and bending individual blades of grass, and things such as projectiles, explosions and wind affect grass movement too. This gives a predator-style gameplay experience in the Fields level, which is very in line with the experience C3 wants to offer. There are not many other games that can offer this kind of realistic grass simulation and rendering on a multiplatform basis.

Actually I was surprised by this when my bro game his old 88000gts. It stills plays games at around console settings and usually with higher resolution and/or performance. The only problem is that it runs very hot and probably is wasting some electricity.

GioVela2010

The 8800 series is more than 3x the performance of consoles.

It can play games at quite a bit higher settings than a console would.

I know because I have an older PC with an 8800gt.

You are delusional if you think u think Far Cry 3 looks better on a 8800GT. I can't even tell the difference between Ultra Settings and a 360 at the same resolution.. Even with both images upscaled to 2048x1536

I really doubt that 360 version has graphics equivalent to ultra or high settings of PC also from what I understand it uses a custom resolution of almost 720p. Also I have seen the 360's and PS3's sceen tearing in action.

Well it matters cause it's a +3 year old card and not 2...

GPU has had 2 generation of succesors... that's about 30-40% increase in power.

Also, you didn't get the best of the best at that time either.

Today you card is barely even worth 100$...

All irrelevant

How is it irrelevant ?

You're GPU is outdated, just like how the X360 is outdated.

You give bmw drivers a bad name I hope you maintain your car better than your pc. Not sure what your smoking but the 720 is a console and unless it is using water or sub-zero tech the heat will limit what it can do. Also the price will be a huge factor so I really doubt it will be on the level of current high end hardware. A mid range card today is the hd 7870 it pulls 120w at idle and 300w at full tilt that is just the gpu. Pc hardware is so far ahead that I don't think consoles can even match a mid level gaming pc.

every game looks/perform better on 8800gt compared to consoles. (link) Even a ATI x1950 pro that is 2 times slower than the 8800GT play games like crysis2 with slightly better graphics and performance than 360/ps3
