It's not even a constant 30 FPS, it's a 30 FPS cap with dips. What in the hell? Trolling aside, there's no reason why a game so old and filled with pre-rendered backgrounds isn't running at a constant 60 FPS at 1080p on PS4. Hell, you'd expect that shit on PS3. Crapcom keeps sinking below rock bottom.

While that does seem below average for a AAA dev, I'm just happy they are finally bringing the game to a PlayStation. It's my favorite in the series.

OP is everything wrong with the ignorance of System Wars lately. What good would a game like this, or a menu driven RPG or a fucking Chess game do running at 60fps? It doesn't affect gameplay or mechanics at all. So, you sit here bitching about the graphics being ratcheted up instead. Get real. Just.... figure it out.

Edit:

Upon further reading of the actual article itself, I am wondering how the hell the performance is this abysmal. Smells of a cheap cash grab and terrible port job. I redact half of my above post. OP is actually right and this is not the typical grand-standing over framerate System Wars style.

It's more about PS4 not being able to play a 10+ year old game at 1080p60fps, not really talking about game enjoyment here.

That's not even what I implied in my post. It's the fact that a 2002 Gamecube game is running at such a low framerate on a console released in 2013 for no apparent reason other than developer incompetence. Charging $19.99 on top of that is just insulting.

@nintendoboy16: Once again, two completely different issues. I've waited 12 years for this game to come to a PlayStation. With Tomb Raider it was a series on PlayStation and now it's not a guarantee.

Actually, I do want to recant some of what I said. I was under the impression the remaster was going to be done in 16:9 fully but it does appear that the 16:9 mode is.. lacking.

So, I'm rather at a loss, given the amount of missing pixels needing to be rendered why this game WOULD fall short of 30fps after all? I think you were right, in a sense. This does reek of terrible porting and a cash grab.

The devs said themselves it's only a timed exclusive. Sure, it's published by Microsoft, but here's the thing, several MS published exclusives don't stay that way long.

Mass Effect 1 - Released on 360 in 2007 under MS label, EA, since they bought Bioware ported it to PC a year later and to PS3 in 2012

Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 - Both were XBOX exclusive, but were released to PS3 under the Sigma label

And it wasn't restricted to MS either, even Nintendo had this during the Nintendo 64 era when they published Shadows of the Empire for the N64. It didn't stop Lucasarts from porting to PC. Rogue Squadron was even published by Nintendo's European branch, again, didn't stop Lucasarts and Factor 5 from porting to PC (although the second and third Rogue Squadron games remained GameCube exclusives).

From NES to PS2 era, Capcom was one of my all time favorite companies, but it's unfortunate how lazy they have become, especially last generation.

They should have done a better job retaining talent.

Hopefully can turn the ship around to win my favor again this generation. Regarding REmake on next gen machines? This is just another symptom of Cross gen lazy ports:

Overall the game's level layout feels slightly sparse for a PS4 title, suggesting the benchmark might be set fairly low to favour these less capable consoles (PS3 and 360).

I wouldn't say that Capcom "can't" get the game running better as the title suggests, I'm sure they could. It's just that they opted to save money and are being incredibly cheap for new gen machines (PS4/Xbone)...and I'm sure the game will sell fine proving Capcom was right to maximize profits by cheaply porting up to the new machines. It's a lazy new generation cross gen port, which sucks.

I was already complaining about cross gen games well before this news (way back when the 360 was new in fact, lol GUN or Tony Hawk 2X back on the original Xbox) and I'm sticking to it.

On the flip side? If you buy this REmake HD game on PS systems, it's cross buy meaning: When you buy it on PS3, you get the PS4 version and vice versa. It's not a great flip side, but it's worth noting if you share your consoles or live with a family.

Again, how so? You do realize that Square Enix still has major links to Sony, right? Ever since the PlayStation One when they were Square Soft? They aren't that stupid.

Alright then. If the majority of their upcoming library from Kingdom Hearts 3 to Final Fantasy XV, a good chunk of which destined for PlayStation, doesn't tell you that they still have strong ties with Sony, pretty much saying that RoTR still has a chance to be on PlayStation, and that your fellow PlayStation fandom has had belated ports of games for years, then I don't know what to tell you.

I thought a sub-30 framerate was beneficial to the "cinematic feel" of a game? So that makes this a design choice on Capcom's behalf. Nothing troubling here.

I've tried to hate Capcom on many occasions (because their business practices are undeniably shitty) but their legacy is just too strong. :( In that sense, they're probably second to Nintendo. It's really a shame that they're such a mess these days.

Yes, we've known about this since announcement.

Also the drops take place during camera angle changes. This has happened with all previous classic style Resident Evil games. If you had read the article you'd know this.
