Quick facts:

  • It's a 2D sidescroller featuring stealth gameplay.
  • The plot takes place in an alternate Cold War.
  • Marketed as an indie, but Sony was involved with development in some capacity
  • Dynamighty, the developer, is made up of staff who have prior experience in the industry
  • It's cross-buy and cross-save.
  • US price is $14.99 (you get all 3 versions)

You interested, SW? I already have my copy pre-loaded on the Vita.

GS review is in and it gets an 8! Cool beans!

Just bought a PS4 yesterday, might look into it. Though I currently have a backlog that includes Ni No Kuni and Pikmin 3 right now.

I am somewhat curious. So yeh I will likely end up jumping at it.

I'm in. Looked like tons of fun. Nice art style.

Yep I'm getting this. It looks really interesting.

I'm picking it up and eventually I'll get $10 back since I also have claimed Hohokum, Rogue Legacy, and Swapper. All have been really good, Swapper and Rogue Legacy are pretty well documented, Hohokum is great for when want to play something but aren't looking to be challenged. Sony has been bringing really good arcade games to their platforms the past couple years, hopefully Counterspy is no exception.

I did the same thing. I really like Rogue Legacy, especially on Vita (should've been a Vita launch title lol). Swapper has an interesting vibe. I play it when I'm in the mood for brain teasers. Hohokum, didn't play so much yet. And now this game! I think that was a good deal.

Nope, poor previews were poor.

@SolidGame_basic: I kind of had to give Hohokum a second chance. My initial impressions weren't so positive since it seems like there's so little "game" there, but when I reapproached it on it's terms, with the understanding that it more of an open ended, vague, burn one, relax and explore kind of game, it really started to grow on me. Maybe try burning one, always works for me.

I'm getting this game, but since it's DD I'm waiting for a 50% or more sale. That's my policy with DD games because you can't sell/trade/collect/lend/gift them...assuming it garners fantastic reviews of course.

I've been keeping my eye on metacritic which has zero reviews so far (as of this post) and I am waiting for 20+ reviews to go up, especially from select sites I prefer. That's going to take a few weeks at least.

I'll wait for a sale. Even with cross buy seems like too much for me.

#15 Edited by jg4xchamp (47328 posts) -

I'm looking forward to it as I like the footage I've seen of the game.

looks good but i'll wait for some reviews before i decide.

@SolidGame_basic:

Preordered on PSN on Saturday.... Waiting a few hours now til midnight to play the game. Preloading rocks ... so glad they brought that to ps4!

Surprised people are biting on this forum. I remember when all downloadable games were "Trash" according to fanboys on this forum...it was pathetic!

If I was going to buy anything tomorrow, it would be Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition, but seeing I just spent almost $400 today, I won't be buying anything tomorrow.

I love the look of it. I will get it down the road.

Interested in it, but my gaming dance card is full for the near future, so I'll wait for an inevitable sale.

Sounds like I should check out some reviews and impressions too...

Lol no

Picked up a 7.0 at IGN, notes inconsistent AI, inaccurate shooting, and on Vita long load times, and spotty framerate.

#24 Posted by MrYaotubo (2637 posts) -

Looked ok but it sure is getting average to mediocre reviews.

#25 Posted by charizard1605 (56018 posts) -

I was going to look into it, but I haven't been hearing good things about it. I'm just going to wait till it hits PS+, which it inevitably will.

#26 Posted by SolidGame_basic (16823 posts) -

Mixed reviews so far. Still looking forward to it!

Really hope this one is good! Looks cool.

Edit: Having just read the Polygon review I don't think I'll get it unfortunately lol.

But CounterSpy frequently makes stealth unfairly impossible. I often opened a door to find myself instantly spotted by a half-dozen soldiers who standing there, waiting for my arrival. Other times, I was spotted, even when I was behind cover. There's no clear indication or logic defining when guards can see you and when they can't - a major problem for a stealth game.

Looks good. Wonder if PSN+ will give it away soon? hmmm

#29 Posted by SolidGame_basic (16823 posts) -

Just started this. I really like the presentation and humor so far. Gameplay seems really interesting. But we'll see how it goes!

I bought it because me and solidgame like cool games, right Brotisserie chicken?

GS review is in! 8/10!

It looks interesting. I'd buy if I was able to.

#34 Posted by yokofox33 (29363 posts) -

Good score. Looking forward to starting it this weekend.

#35 Posted by charizard1605 (56018 posts) -

Yeah, I'm gonna wait on PS+ on this one. The reviews don't fill me with confidence enough to spend money on this, unfortunately.

Liked what I saw first time I saw it. Will probably get. Some good SDC happening here.

I'll probably get it sometime down the road.

Looks stupid. Alternate Cold War? Wtf there's already enough historical falsification running around.

#41 Posted by Sollet (7342 posts) -

Looks cool and cross-buy/save for 15 bucks aint that bad either!

#42 Edited by SolidGame_basic (16823 posts) -

I'm liking this game. It's not too complicated, but it does offer a challenge if you actually want to score points instead of just rambo-ing the level. I played both PS4 and Vita versions. The cross-play works really, really, well. You don't even have to manually save like you do in Swapper. You turn it off and pick it up on any console right where you left off. I will say, I wish the Vita version was more polished. You will definitely notice a downgrade from the PS4 version and some framerate drops when you in heavy fire. The PS4 version is downright beautiful. But Vita gives you the portability and the pick-up and play works well with this game. I also didn't know that the levels are procedurally generated which is cool. Also, there are higher difficulty levels to unlock. Fun game! Worth the $11.99 I paid for plus the $2.50 back you get for buying the indie package.

Looks fun.

Another high-scoring game on the PS4. Imagine if the Xbone got them as often. Must be tough on the Povertybox, considering the last retail release before Diablo 3 was Sniper Elite 3 on July 1st.

#45 Posted by finalfantasy94 (26343 posts) -

love the look of the game. Its definitely a pick up later on.

68 on Metacritic doesn't inspire much confidence. I might pick it up on the Vita, but probably not.

I was going to get it but since I'm broke. I got last tinker instead because we need 3d platform games to make a comeback on playstation. I will get it next week when I get paid because I don't care about reviews.

Yeah, what gets me is just how much the reviews contradict each other.

IGN: A good game with its heart in the right place. Its Cold War premise is brilliant, its art is beautiful, and its music is lovely. When it comes to gameplay, the stealth action sputters a bit in its inconsistent AI and inaccurate aiming, but it still delivers a fun experience.

Gamespot: It might be short, but I enjoyed almost every minute of my time with CounterSpy. The movement and gunplay are smooth and responsive, and the lovingly crafted presentation remains stunning throughout. This is a stealth game that makes you feel as silent as you are deadly, and is wonderfully, wholly refreshing.

I'm going to wait on a few more reviews. If my back log weren't as big as it is, I would probably go give the game a chance.

I enjoyed it. Took me 3-4 hours to finish, but there's a lot of replay-ability. The levels are randomly generated and you can also unlock higher difficulties. I think it was well worth the price.
