i dont think it can,it cant even handle gears,and mass effect looks like it can top gears in terms of graphics and whatnot

GT:HD, HS, and FFXIII all look better than Mass Effect I think so I'd be surprised if the console couldn't handle the game.

ummm yeah it could ... Mass effect is Unreal Engine 3 , and the ps3 has the UE3 sdk's in its dev kits , and the ps3 alpha kits could run unreal tournament 3 (ut2k7 back then) jsut fin ... im sure the final hardware could run mass effect

:lol: BTW you should precise CGI cutscenes, cause there are also cutscenes in FF that use Ingame Engine. And also I should make you go reread gamespot's reviews about FF... FF7-> 10 in graphics, FF8-> 10 in graphics, FF9 -> 9 in graphics, FFX-> 10 in graphics, FFXII -> 9 in graphics, Hmmm yeah graphics sure are bad... Hater

lol,the graphics are horrible. when games that came out for the xbox 3 years before have better graphics than ffXII,that means they suck. Maybe a 9 in terms for the low graphical punch the ps2 can do,but in actual terms i would have given it a 7

EDIT: before anyone says anything else,yes,i have played all of the final fantasys,so its not like im just saying it to hate them,i love final fantasy,im just saying that the graphics are nothing compared to most other games.

At it's current state no because PS3 can't handle any port's that are of directx origin. The game would have to be built from scratch all over.

Wow... maybe because Xbox is more powerful than PS2. Seriously man, then let's say Halo's graphics, Ninja Gaiden's graphics and so on are bad, cause the PC's Far Cry and Half Life 2 simply look better.

PS3 can't run 360 games :lol:

but the 360 DVD only works on 360 now if it was made on a Blu-ray PS3 disc that would be a whole other story

Yes...it probably could. The PS3 has some technical limitations as far as memory goes, but it can run the Unreal 3 Engine, as well as some other, quite advanced frameworks. You can't belittle the PS3's over all performance based off of fairly miniscule disadvantages. That's just my best hypothesis. I'm not terribly sure about the extent of the PS3's memory deficiencies, but from what we've seen from other games, Mass Effect doesn't look too far from being plausible on the hardware. Too bad we'll never be able to find out.

That screenshot is indoors. The Lair screenshot is not. Miles of high quality terrain>indoors

Not to mention in Lair there are legions of dragons and expansive environments. Texture quality and lighting on Mass Effect screenshot basically makes comparisons between the two nil, but judging from actual gameplay visuals, Lair takes the cake in a billion different ways.

Its framerate also demolishes quite a few things, though not in the good way. Lair looks nice, but not significantly exceeding Mass Effect. It also has a number of peformance issues if my memory serves me correctly. It all remains to be seen.

as usual a unreal 3 engine is running mass effect, an engine that only looks good in 80% shadows, ex... Geow and mass effect.

mass effect has horrible jaggies, and the characters are no where as detailed as MGS4's

What's interesting is the worst picture in the lineup of screenshots was chosen to compare with a decidedly high quality screen shot from Mass Effect. Judging from any other screen shot in that batch, Mass Effect will be owned visually. The Water+Mountain effects alone do it for me 100%. The quality of textures+lighting is one thing, but if you can do it on a scale like that, you've got an astounding game, visually. Honestly, though, I was shocked by Mass Effect screenshots. And I, now, in turn, am shocked by Lair screenshots.
