It is the first time that a video game has ever topped the charts at Amazon and underlines how gaming, once a niche passtime for teenage boys, has become a mainstream entertainment for millions of British families.

It beat the DVD of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince into second place. Third place was taken by the DVD of Michael McIntyre Live 2009, crowning an amazing year for the comic, who has become, in a short space of time, the country's most successful stand up.

Though it was attacked by some for its often violent nature, it was also praised for the high quality of its graphics and imaginative storyline.

The figures from Amazon come a week after The Daily Telegraph revealed that video games industry is now officially bigger than the cinema industry in Britain, in terms of money taken at the tills.

In the twelve months to the end of September 2009, £1.73 billion was spent on video games, according to the data company GFK Chart-Track.

See now this really grinds my gears people think playing video games is something only pubescent teenage boys do in their bedrooms and then drop the habit when they get out in the sunlight but NO those teenage boys are now 30-40 and they are still playing games and with a lot more cash to spend,

Plus with the exemption of WOW players a lot of us have families that have joined in with our hobbies.

People dont stop fishing why should we stop gaming.

That sounds like an interesting act.
