Classics you still need to play

What classics have you always wanted to play but for some reason never got to? For me, I missed out on a lot of great games during the PS1 era, even though I played a lot of great PS1 games. There were just too many. Last summer I finally got around to playing Vagrant Story which even by today's standards is really good. I also beat Xenogears a few years before that (game came out in 1998). Other games I need to get to are:

Alundra
Lunar Silver Story (currently playing the PSP remake)
Grandia
Legend of Dragoon
Chrono Cross/Trigger (getting it tomorrow!)
Tactics Ogre (playing PSP remake)

Maybes:

Star Ocean
Legend of Legaia (played a bit of it when it first came out, just never finished)
Legend of Mana

Non PS1 games

Silent HIll 2/3 (will try to grab the HD collection at some point)

Half Life (beat it recently. played Half Life 2 first a while ago)
Portal (played Portal 2 first)
System Shock 2
F.E.A.R. & F.E.A.R. 2

Actually it seems like only the last 3 in the list matter.

An old game I had for the Sega Saturn called "Spot goes to Hollywood" is a game I would like to play again. I never did manage to finish it when I was young.

One of the latest zelda and monster hunter, If the wii u keeps on dropping in price I'll buy one sooner or later (or it is nintendo releases a new powerfull console , who knows...)

Vendentas (arcade game), played a couple of times in the arcade, but never got to it any more.

Bloodrayne 2 , i really liked the first one, but couldn't get into the second right away after that, still on my 'to play' list

I think that's about it, played so many games that there isn't really something I missed, some games (like system shock 2 for isntance) are so old and ugly that I don't care anymore. Not every game is timeless even halflife has problems to stand the test of time. I think halflife 2 will age a lot more gracefully.

A classic you really should play is 'moonstone' on the amiga (you can play it on emulator as well, I think it's abandonware now). It's a game from 1991 and it really stood the test of time, it's not in hd of course but if you would play it you would understand what i mean. It's an rpg in realtime and the graphics are awesome, even for todays standards, it is of course a 2d game but has some fake 3d like most 2d beat em up scrollers, but this is no scroller. You'll see what I mean when you play it or watch the video. I still remember I had to order an extra 512 mb of ram for my amiga in the uk to be able to play this game.

that's funny you mention it, I bought those games (except racing) last week during the PSN sale ($0.99 each). Now if we can only play them on Vita...

I actually bought just Crash Team Racing last week. I was happy when they were all made available on Vita for a bit, but then Sony had to go and be a party pooper...

Pretty much every Sega classic beyond Sonic, Golden Axe and Streets of Rage. Especially Shining Force, got half way thru the first one and adored it but lost the save :(

Pretty much any PC classic of the last decade. I had insane luck in the late 90s/early 00s, with a decent family computer and a random talent of picking INCREDIBLE pc games purely by their box art: Civilization 2, Caesar/Pharaoh, Diablo 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Grim Fandango, Deus Ex, Total Annhilation, Age Of Empires etc... but missed out from early 00s to present, really. Gotta rectify that!

I'm pretty good for Sony/Nintendo console classics I think!

I can tolerate it if the game has co-op so I don't have to shoulder the burden alone.

I played Alundra. I liked the gameplay since it wasn't too Japanees'ish but overall thought it was pretty meh. I never could get into Lunar plus that art style kills me.

There was a great RPG made for PC around 1999 or 2000 by Silver...or maybe it had Silver in the title, can't remember but I've been looking for it forever. Top down view, real time combat. Most RPG's these days are either Manga or Anime and I really hate that. I have no clue why that art style got so popular here. Looks cheesy as all hell.

I had that game on Genesis I think it was. They made a couple of "Spot" games. They are very good I agree. Another game done in a similar style I know of is Rocko's Modern Life on SNES.

$200 is actually not bad if the copy is in excellent condition, well, it's around average.

But yeah, waiting for the PSN version myself, probably going to be $19.99.

Im playing through the silent hill 2 hd collection right now with silent hill 2. The collection got bad reviews, but for a new comer like me, it's a lot of fun. Better than never playing it I suppose.

You could have gotten all of them for $4 total on the PSN sale last week.
