According to sources sounds about right

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/08/05/nba-2k14-is-the-best-selling-sports-game-ever-for-take-two

"According to Zelnick, Take-Two has now shipped 10 million units of Borderlands 2, which is a roughly 1.5 million unit increase over numbers given by the company for the shooter earlier this year. BioShock Infinite now sits at 7 million copies shipped, which is almost double what Take-Two reported back in May 2013. And finally, Civilization V sales numbers are at 6 million units shipped"

But I thought strategy games were dead

I can't think of a single game that deserves its success more than Civ V deserves its.

Game is awesome - well deserved.

I've had sleepless nights playing Civ 5. It completely destroys your sense of time.

Does this include the expansion sales?

Civ V spent some years being mediocre until BNW came out.

Uh... strategy games are far from dead. Matter of fact when I play a strategy game it is usually for the PC. So yeah not surprising at all. You people really need to stop listening to the conscience and think a little more critically about why people may say such a thing.

Console gamers would have you believe any game that isn't 3rd person action or a FPS is dead or doesn't count.

Just like how most PC gamers will insist that the arcade scene is dead and hence fighting games are irrelevant

you'll find them in the occasional "Why would anyone need a console over a PC?" type of threads, which would inevitably lead to the aspect of fighting games being brought up.

That doesn't make sense when a large amount of fighting games are coming out on the pc, a genre which was nonexistent on the pc 8 years ago.....

That really isn't the same as literally saying X genre doesn't count in sales/library charts.

Civ 5 (with it's expansions) is the king of it's genre and an amazing game, so it's well deserved.

@illmatic87: It certainly needed to mature, but it was never mediocre, IMO.

It was comfortably the best one since Civ 2. I've played all of them and it's as good as it gets. Just a pity you don't build your castle any more. Totally pointless but I used to like that.

A "problematic" series long overdue for a "call out" at best.

The Civilization games promote: violence, genocide, greed, jingoism, cultural appropriation, Machiavellianism, colonialism, imperialism, patriarchy, and misogyny.

They're also incredibly addictive and fun.

Congratulations to a series that's willing to depict humanity as it is and has been historically while still making it fun.

Strategy games are also a genre that no one cares about (7 million people is nothing compared to the PS4 userbase), so, like RTS games, they don't count.

I agree. I personally really like turn-based and real-time strategy games.

Then I must have captured the current culture of criticism correctly.

FWIW, it was intended as a joke, given the absurdity of my complaints, but it's a bit sad that, as ridiculous as they may have been, they're completely in keeping with the current culture of perpetual offense; to the point that they're almost viewed as legitimate.

Well, turn-based games are very different than RTS. I really like the Civ games and there are really only a few RTS that I really enjoy.
