Poll Circle Pad Pro v.s. C-Stick (10 votes)
The Circle Pad Pro and the New 3DS both addressed the lack of dual control sticks on the platform as well as adding two extra triggers. Though they both did this, how they went about it was quite different. I'll offer points for both sides of the argument, and am eager to see how this pans out in the polls.
Circle Pad Pro: Good
- Full Analog Control
- Identical Control Stick as the Circle Pad
- Extra Plastic Case serves for a more "home console" like experience(better grip)
- ZL & ZR Triggers resemble home console triggers(in appearance and placement)
Circle Pad Pro: Bad
- Extra Plastic Case can be cumbersome and isn't aesthetically pleasing
- Battery Life of the peripheral isn't bad but nonetheless it has one
C-Stick: Good
- Concise add-on and placed well
- Offers a Gamecube-like "Secondary Control Stick" experience
- Reverts back to standard handling(outer case) common in 3DS family
- Better Portability than Circle Pad Pro
C-Stick: Bad
- Not being full-analog can affect certain genres
- Small Size and stiff operation can be awkward to some
- Triggers are closer together resulting in a more crowded array of buttons
Personally, I prefer the Circle Pad Pro. As said above I like that the control stick is the same Circle Pad as expected on the 3DS, the plastic case makes a huge difference for me in terms of comfort when holding the system, and I like that it is full analog. I realize it isn't a perfect peripheral but I think it does succeed in providing the console with an alternative control scheme with the control stick and triggers allowing more types of games to fit well on the system. My only gripe with the C-Stick is the lack of analog. I do like the feeling of it, it feels very secure and well made, but I can't help to think that certain genres, like FPS for example, which is a prime reason FOR dual analog control, would suffer due to the lack of analog. I own multiple games that support the CPP such as: Majora's Mask, MGS Snake Eater, Moon Chronicles, Resident Evil Revelations.
