Still getting that 500 error. Wanted to make a poll.

Rough concept:

2 TB PS4 Super Slim (2017) no BRD = $ 249

Official PS4 External BRD = $ 79

--

2 TB X1 Super Slim (2017) no BRD = $ 200

BRD maybe with mic array for voice control = $ 89

--

Sony/MS can probably design the BRDs to have good looks once latched onto the main console.

Anyone think it can exist fine in the market/not make losses for Sony/MS?

No fucking way

1) The current PS4 and One are selling absolutely fine the way they are

2) Digital only isn't supported on consoles correctly nor are there enough sales, or general reasons, to go digital only for most people

3) External anything sucks. If you're doing it, you're in a minority that prefers clutter for more space.

A disc free system might have potential, if it can substantially reduce price, though having a bigger HDD inside would eat up savings, just give it USB 3.0 external HDD support.

As for an external BR drive, why waste the money? And why should both pieces bought separately cost less than than a PS4 with a BR drive? This wasn't though through enough.

I see. I guess keeping the 500 GB + ext. drive support might be better since it could be a cheaper product than with a 2 TB. Hope hdds drop quite in price within 2 years tho.

External bdr is optional and for people that may want to still go with physical not just locking down on just digital.

By 2017, I doubt the PS4/X1 would still be $ 399/349 MSRP unless the refresh gets quite an upgrade or quite a bundle like an X1 bundling in an elite. Maybe the PS4 w/ BDR might have a $ 300 MSRP by 2017 (and the proposed model $ 249 without one). Up to Sony/MS to decide on how much price gap would make more sense from the traditional models with bdr.

I should've probably mentioned that these don't have to replace models that have built in bdr but more on creating a new cost of entry for mentioned consoles something like PSTV ($ 99 MSRP) and VITA ($ 199 MSRP) but could be better since the PSTV doesn't play all VITA games. Perhaps kinda like the iPad and iPad Mini where the Mini thins down the barrier of entry into iOS/AppStore relative to the iPad but probably also better since the PS4 w/o BDR doesn't have a slower chip (iPad Mini) than the PS4 w/ BDR (iPad regular).
