This was subsequently a year and a half before it actually released in November 2004, now if 1 1/2 years was far too soon then what exactly would happen with Half-Life 3? They showed off and officially announced Half-Life 2 at E3, why not Half-Life 3? I can see Valve dropping a bombshell at E3 this year out of no where with a November release. That's five months from now, that seems like a perfectly reasonable release window if 18 months was far too soon.
Agreed. Sadly about 90% of SW consists of posters that meet that criteria.

I've actually received death threats via pms here, and a weirdo who kept a pic from a blog I made years ago, and he posts it every time I make a thread in SW. He claims the pick "disgusts" him, but he keeps it like it's gold and I don't even have the pic anymore LOL.
Valve doesn't do E3. Last time was 2010 to annoucne portal 2 was coming to ps3.

hell CDPR went 3.5 years without making a game.
The thing is CD Projekt announced Witcher 3 after 1 year of Xbox 360 release of Witcher 2 and they were already hinting at Witcher 3 soon after the release of Witcher 2 PC. Valve didn't say single word about their next game after Portal 2. Counter Strike is their E-sport machine that got another standalone version instead of update in 2012 (shocking???).
They entered Moba market with Dota 2 which started as Warcraft 3 mod. They haven't released any big AAA game since 2011 and haven't said a single word about their upcoming projects. All they've said is how they want to embrace multiplayer and F2P. Hell they didn't even want to make Portal 2. Some people in the company were passionate about it so they decided to finally make it. I fear that Source 2 won't bring any jaw dropping visuals like the first one.
It'll just look great and it will be used to promote user generated content and Left 4 Dead 3 will be used to demonstrate that. Basically, they'll do exactly the same thing as Epic is doing with Unreal Tournament. I don't expect any next gen facial expressions, or new milestone for AI and new way of Storytelling in their next SP game etc.

To be honest I don't expect any SP games from them at all. Like you said, they didn't even want to do Portal 2. The next L4D will be co-op focused like the first two and it might even be F2P or closer to what CS:GO is. Then there might be a updated Team Fortress down the road and that's probably gonna be it for the next 10 year. Maybe we'll get an engine update to CS:GO/Dota 2 as well but I highly doubt we'll get a real single-player experience from them.
