This game is one of the most stunningly beautiful handheld games ever created. And it is also one of the first legit, true to genre, fps games on a portable. How this game flew over everyone's heads is beyond me. But I think a game like this deserves serious recognition. How many portable games come with full voice acting, campaign, and a functional/competitive multiplayer? It also makes clever use of touch screen capabilities. A true console like experience on the go as Sony had promised with Vita. Tis' sad that Vita couldn't see more games like this due to low sales. What say you, SW? Have you tried this game? The critical reviews were positive (78% on MC), but the player reviews were even more positive.

The first rule of SW is we don't talk about everyone ever agreeing about anything. :P

OT, wouldn't know, never played it.

I find Killzone to be an atrocious franchise so I probably would hate it. Hate it.

I bought it the first week it was out. Game is great. I had fun with Resistance Burning Skies, it came first had a full campaign and MP. But Mercenary was a much more polished, stronger game imo. I totally agree TC, this game was great stuff.

Looking forward to Cambridge's shot at a mainline console Killzone game, they might actually do it some justice critics wise. Mercs was decent, even on the Vita. Let main Guerilla studio work on their soon to be Robo-dino RPG franchise. Here's hoping Cambridge looks back to what made Killzone 2 awesome.

Wouldn't say "ahead of its time" the game was barely "okay" campaign wise. The multiplayer was a bit better but overall the game was pretty disappointing. The best part about it were the visuals, everything else was okay.

Both Killzone and Uncharted were amazing for what they pulled off on a handheld at the time. I agree it's a shame Vita can't get more AAA experiences like that, but the market has spoken.

I disagree, multiplayer was fantastic, and just about fully functioned Killzone (except for fact it was 4 vs 4 instead of 8 vs 8 or 16 vs 16). The quality of multiplayer alone made the game far from "disappointing".

Campaign was just standard Killzone fare, and without the giant "set-pieces", so I'm not going to say anything about it knocked my socks off (except for the general idea it was impressive how close the experience was to the PS3 iterations). But they also de-emphasized the story and made it more straightforward gameplay. I think the touch screen additions and other tweaks for the handheld worked pretty damn well too.

I started playing Duke Nukem and Killzone on vita this week.... I have not yet played a Killzone game I enjoy. They always feel so slow and tank-like to me. I do think it's cool they shoved what is basically a full console experience into the handheld, but I haven't played anything relating to its content that has blown me away as of yet. I actually prefer Duke at this point.

@2Chalupas: yeah i mean I personally wouldn't call the multiplayer fantastic. But yeah it wasnt bad. I felt overall the game was disappointing... Uncharted on the other hand was in my opinion a fantastic game. It really did translate well to Vita and played very well. Much better than Killzone. I would say that maybe Uncharted on Vita was the game ahead of its time. Graphics, controls, voice acting. Everything was top notch there.

Nah, it had some depth in its team based gameplay compared to most FPS games, but nothing about it was ahead of its time, especially its tepid campaign.

I've just ordered it so I'll have an opinion in a few days! Sounds like I'll wish the campaign was longer but only cost £8 so can't argue at that.

@2Chalupas: I don't think the full console experience is appealing to handheld owners... I know that sounds rubbish, but I know I gravitate towards games that feel prime on my handheld... Shovel Knight, rogue legacy, Titan souls etc.... Games, who's scope and gameplay feel finely tuned for the handheld control scheme... When I play the more robust and console like games on vita, I always feel like I wish I was playing on my console.

Honestly I'm not that into handhelds, and I don't like playing pure "handheld" games period. I sort of have to force myself to play them once in awhile.

I have both 3DS XL and Vita, and if I'm being honest neither purchase was really justified. I guess that's why I'm more impressed by the technical merits of a game like Killzone as opposed to the more indie games that get ported down to those platforms. Of course my favorite game on Vita was probably Tearaway, and that one makes full use of the controls Vita offers (some might see all those controls as gimmicky). Yet I wouldn't call that game a "technical marvel" by any means.

Vita is capable of some nice looking games like Toukiden, Uncharted and Freedom Wars. The market just doesn't care so it'll be interesting to see if Sony will bother with a new handheld since production values are their thing and it doesn't translate to handhelds.

THANK YOU OP !!!

Srs, it's one of the best handheld games ever. Especially when it comes to the multiplayer.

Yes it's Killzone, but by far the best one with the best multiplayer IMO. And fck it, the GOAT multiplayer of handhelds.

this game should have been re-released on PS4.

Im sure they didnt sell that many on VITA, so porting it to PS4 would have brought some more revenue.

I bet it was more fun than Killzone 3 and Shadow Fall's mp. How in the **** did Guerilla make a pretty bitchin multiplayer for Killzone 2 in spite of their awkward shooting mechanics, and the second they make a more consistent gunplay they proceed to take out everything cool about Killzone 2. Shit makes no sense.

That would likely require owning a Vita first, which won't happen for more than $50, so someday!

I had Liberation for PSP and I enjoyed the 3rd-person take on Killzone.

I really liked playing Mercenary online. It was pretty sweet to play such a stunning looking portable FPS on the AMOLED screen.

And it was a pretty great working FPS to boot. Worked just as fine as on PS3. Need to play the campaing some more.

Damn. I've never seen Killzone Mercenary gameplay before and wow... I always knew Killzone was the graphics king of consoles, but I didn't know Killzone was the graphics king of handhelds as well. GOAT dynamic lighting.
