Awesome news for indie developers. Both CryEngine 3 and UnrealEngine 4 will be available through a subscription model.
This is superb news, first of all, for us, PC Gamers. We will have more good-looking games as never before.
Now most of indies will stop using those awful 16 bit engines, lol. Now we will have both good gameplay AND visuals.
For $10 USD a month, subscribers can access all of CryEngine's development tools, including the geometry cache and image based lighting features shown off at this week'sGDC. Crytek also said the program will be royalty-free.
Epic's "crown jewel," Unreal Engine 4, will become available to anyone in the general public for $19 per month, Epic founder Tim Sweeney announced.
