Bloodborne Will Be Less Punishing To Attract Wider Audience

I mean come on lets face it, Dark Souls doesn't pit you against odds that are too hard for you to over come, it pits you against odds that are too great for your Character to overcome. Its gameplay is far too slow and its enemies are far to stupid to to raise a challenge against the player, so they simply artificially increase the difficulty by Nerfing your character.

Very happy! Now I can maybe play one of their games with out having to Rage.

Never touch any of their souls games, because of how cheap they were at killing you and stopping you from progressing.

Keep souls for the hard core. Make this new franchise for everyone to enjoy.

Not really. There are many videos of low level characters beating the game.

I'm fine with it, personally. The worst thing in the world is when a game wastes your time asking you to re-do things over and over without much of a sense of growth.

I couldn't give a damn about the hardcore NEETs who have their jimmies kicked over this, and kudos to From Software for wanting to expand their audience and make more money in the business world.

Most people who love Souls games are going to flip a table over this.

Or you can love Souls and be willing to give Miyazaki and his team the benefit of the doubt to realize their vision. You know, they're a bunch of exceedingly talented folks who know what they're doing, and I think they've earned as much.

I'm okay with this. They need this game to be a system seller, just like every Sony exclusive. Would be cool if they had a mode with no regenerating health and more defensive oriented gameplay though.

Having played Demon's Souls and in the process of finishing Dark Souls now, both games are hard mostly from the arbitrary need to replay the same sections over and over again to get to the one section that gives you trouble (Dark Souls is much less annoying this respect and is a much better game in my eyes for it). If by less punishing, they mean removing this and making the actual enemies tougher, I'd be all for it. Demon's and Dark Souls stand out for me because of the focus on meaningful melee combat, the atmosphere, and the sense of discovery, not because they are insanely hard. If Bloodborne wants to be in the vein of those games and keeps those features, I'll be happy with it.

But in the end it's a new IP, so they can do whatever the **** they want with it. Taking away shields (at least from what I've seen) is going to be a big change anyways.

Dark souls games are not that hard to begin with....maybe the dated Gameplay is what make it hard for most, i don't know...the Bloodborne seem to have more better gameplay but yet still similer to souls games...still i know i will buy it and enjoy the hell out of it

for me the souls boss fights are not that hard too they do a set of 3-5 moves and i just look at how they move and attack at the right time

Thats the difference between difficult and punishing. But punishment only works if you fail.

In Dark Soul's case, in order to make sure everybody gets a taste of that punishment, you have fail, there will be cheap deaths, because if it was fair nobody would fail enough to taste that sweet sweet punishment.

Well if its as difficult as demons souls...BUT doesn't have you losing souls with every death. That can be a way of keeping the difficulty but making death less of a punishment.

They should make the game more difficult, but give your character complex move sets and turn the game into a beat-em-up. That would be something I would want to play.

I'm worried about that because Dark Souls 2 did a horrible job at it. It was frustrating in a bad way trying to balance difficulty by putting bonfires every ten steps but then throwing something like the Shrine of Amana and bosses throwing enemies in a fight. Dark Souls' difficulty was just fine and didn't need to be changed.

Depends how you play the game. Some people have gotten good enough at the combat that they can use low level characters. And no equipment? Probably not. Less than top tier equipment? Certainly.

I noticed my death scream was different. But then I took off all equip to jump in a liquid pit (one that dmgs equip) and noticed I had boobs and shit haha

Did you go into the coffin near the shore at the beginning of the game? (sorry, not trying to do spoilers)...it changes your gender in the game.

The new approach sounds good to me, but the hardcore players will undoubtedly bitch.

To be fair, I was too soft for Demon's Souls. Loved the game but couldn't beat it.

Wonder if this means they'll do things like reduce penalties for death etc. If that's what they mean, then that sounds fine.

They should just do difficulties.

Nothing too complex. Just 2 difficulties - 1 that is "medium" for the average player to not get overly frustrated, and another that is hardcore, with harder to come by equipment, no health regen, more powerful enemies, etc.

Please don't get greedy trying to water down the formula for the everyman. It's been shown time and again if you focus on making the game what the fans want, the sales will come. When you try and deviate for the sake of "Marketshare" it's where most series just drop off the map.
