Super Mario Bros. should win in a landslide
It's between Super Mario Bros. and Galaxy 2 for me. I voted for Bros. though, because it's one of those games that I can pick up and play anytime.
I voted for Super Mario Bros 3.
Yes Super Mario World is more complex with more gameplay elements and secrets, however its pacing is terrible compared to Super Mario Bros. 3. With SMB3 you can sit down for 2 hours and have a blast and finish the game. Super Mario World requires tedious back tracking that ruins the pacing of the game.
Its kind of the same story with Super Mario 64, its a bit too much of a RPG and not the fun pure straightforward platformer Super Mario 3 was.
Godam....why would you ask such a question.
I dunno...I'm torn between Super Mario World and Mario 64.
Super Mario 3 also had by far the best 'World 8' or Bowser area. All the levels in SMB3'S World 8 were legitimately challenging and extremely well designed.
SMB3 also had the best world building, Desert World actually felt like Desert World. Sky World felt like Skyworld. Pipe World actually felt like Pipe World.
SMG2 > Yoshis Island > SMW = SMB3 > SMG > I don't really feel like ranking the rest.
Top two are interchangeable depending on my mood. Funny thing is I've replayed SMW and SMB3 far more than the rest. I play them both at least a few times a year. I just don't feel like they stack up to the sheer awesomeness of SMG2 and Island.
I tried to remove my nostalgia glasses but I couldn't and voted for Super Mario 64. I have brought great shame.
Better handle it bruh.
I really like the original Super Mario Bros as it is short and sweet. It is easier to challenge yourself on something that you know isn't a big time investment.
All these games are so good.
There's something about Mario 64, though. The controls are just so dang precise--its kind of like getting a remote controlled car as a kid where you can use it out on the street near the home, and then some days go to the tracks.
Imma have to say Super mario 64 - i love the soundtrack (Koopa's Road FTW!) and i prefer the open-world aspect of the game.
Never played the Galaxy games. lost interest in nintendo after the gamecube.

Try the first Galaxy. I don't play games as much as I used to and I certainly don't sit for hours on end day after day. Galaxy has a great atmosphere and gets better as it goes on. Gameplay is a little 2D in comparison to 64, but if you enjoyed Mario 64--especially the soundtrack--youll like galaxy if you give it a shot. ***Soundtrack doesn't measure up to 64 and the control in Galaxy has been simplified.

Right, but if i were to play a galaxy game i'd probably start with the 2nd since everybody seems to praise that game over the first one.

I was going to say that. I haven't fully gone into the second one. Bought the wii in 2011/12ish. Was late to the party. Started with the first one, went to a different game/different genre, and then made an attempt at Galaxy 2. It's great, but if you are looking for that atmosphere I'm not sure it will suck you in like Mario 64. Galaxy 2 plays more like the "extra" stage sections of Mario games. In fact from what I have played it feels like an extension of the first game.
I'm definitely in the minority on this, but I liked Super Mario Galaxy better than Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Ditto. SMG felt like a new thing. And I really liked the hub world and the little story that was there. I liked the overall "feel" of the game. SMG2 came out, and it was just more of the same. Some new things, new stages etc. But by then the magic was kind of gone, and they went with a more shallow approach which helped with killing the magic even more. Personally, I like SMG more than SMG2. I see SMG2 as an expansion to the game SMG.
Super Mario 64, first game I ever played and it's still incredible to this day.
Yeah same here, on it being the first game I ever played, and that I think its quite good. Though next in line I'd say would be Paper Mario 64, epic game that also feels like it brings good nostalgia. (Surprised its not on the list.)
And for me third place is Super Mario World.
