Best Super Mario 2D?

I voted Super Mario World, because in the end I think it's a better done game than many of the other entries. While I can see where your reasoning comes from, that niggling sense of déjà vu throughout NSMBWii and NSMBU did prevent me from having as good of time as I might have otherwise. NSLU though was a breath of fresh air and the right price for what it offered.

Super Mario Bros. 3, no battle.

Super Mario World is the only correct answer. I wish they put it on 3ds VC soon.

Super Mario Bros 1 & 3, Super Mario World 1&2 and New Super Mario Bros U are the best ones.

I really don't have a favorite. It just depends on what Mario game I feel like playing at the moment. Lately I've been playing the first game a lot.

Super Mario World. New Super Mario bros would be my second choice.

Super Mario Bros. No annoying crap like collecting keys or looking for hidden exits; it's just fast and simple.

Exactly my list as well. Yoshi's Island is at a unrivaled 1st spot, though i think i'd put Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES version, i don't really like the All Stars version as much) on the 2nd spot. The controls feel slightly more tight than SMW. Hell, i'll replay it today (and probably end up finishing it) just to be sure.

But you really can't go wrong with these three games.

And that's completely understandable.

But personally, i don't have nostalgic feelings for these games. I first played them in 2008(SMW2:Yoshi's Island), 2009(SMW) and 2011(SMB3), and they're easily better than any other 2D Mario game.

Especially impressed with Super Mario Bros. 3. It's a miracle how much it pushed the NES yet still flawlessly playable, how polished it is and incredibly satisfying the controls feel. I absolutely love this game.

Super Mario World without a doubt.

SMW for me hands down.

There was just so much to be done at the time. I mean, you had to be a gamer or at least indirectly involved with one at the time to truly appreciate how big this game, and others such as Donkey Kong Country on the SNES were at the time. Also, the game was included WITH the SNES console. How great was that! One of the greatest games of all time included with the purchase of the console. The game was and still is a great joy to replay. So much content and variety that sparked additional ideas for the games that came after it. An icon.

The New Super Mario Bros games are nothing compared to World or 3 but World is better than 3 which is also one of my favorite games ever.

Yoshi's Island >>>>> every other 2d platformer.

SMW was my first and still my favourite.
