Console: Timesplitters 2- It's goldeneye (same devs very similar gameplay) with better controls and waaaay faster and it has bots. Nothing else comes close to the frantic awesomeness. It's the only console shooter that I enjoy as much as PC shooters.

PC: This is very hard. going to go by modes here

deathmatch - Quake III

Team modes - Team fortress 2

Coop - Left4Dead

Normal Single player -Half life 2

Really action based SP - CoD franchise (Infinity Ward only)

Not so normal SP - Bioshock

Puzzle - Portal

well - "best" isn't a universal statement...

it is like asking which is the "best" ice cream flavor or pizza topping... anyway, I'm not much of an FPS fan -

but, I did enjoy the original Half Life and Perfect Dark... overall though- I'd have to say either Perfect Dark (b/c of its multiplayer), or Lost Planet on 360- which was more action style than FPS.

Fast paced shooter is Quake* Slower paced but more atmosphere is Half-Liferybe1025

...are you serious? Halo isn't even that fast for a console shooter. (CoD4 is faster and Timesplitters is WAY faster) Compared to PC shooters it is just plain sluggish.

I'm playing that at the moment. It's been great so far, really gives you alot of freedom for an FPS or whatever you want to call it. I can see why you like it so much.

I would give this title to Half Life 2 though.

i was gonna say call of duty 4 is best modern shooter, but if you think about it, it's unbalanced as hell.

you cant shoot while sprinting, but the enemy walking can shoot you while ur sprinting.

making it unbalanced, if you could of shot awhile sprinting would of been more balanced.
