Best difficulty setting for The Last of Us?

I'm starting the game this evening. 

What is the best difficulty to play the game on?

I'm not that great at games but I love stealth games and I want to bring the game as close as possible to a survival thing. 

Is the highest difficulty good for that or is it just frustrating?

I debated turning listening mode off, but I went casual and kept it on. And I ALWAYS play games at normal difficulty the first time.

Yep even with x-ray vision it is still very intense.

I meant getting caught off guard by not being able to see Infected through walls.

At certain points in the game you basically get Batman dectective vision where you see where enemies are located.

Oh yea.. I've seen that in videos etc... didn't knew it was called "Listen Mode" though
Well imho this thing should be obviously turned off!

Yeah sometimes when I  get caught sneaking I just let myself die because losing all your ammunition and heath kits in one fight is brutal.

Normal I just think it's the right start for most games since you want a normal experience.

Hard, normal doesn't capture the survival feeling very well.

Don't use listen mode.

I play on Normal. Thats perfect, you will die sometimes but its not impossible.

Not really. If you play very carefully and you're creative with your bricks and bottles, you won't die too often. I just plan out my attack before executing it, and it goes well.

I'm playing Normal w/ Listen Mode on... (didnt know you could turn it off)... I don't use it all that often anyway.

I've had a few areas that gave me some trouble, because its very easy to become overwhelmed, when the clickers hear you. One mistake = insta death even on Normal... So I'd recommend starting on Normal... and then Hard on 2nd playthrough.

Game is SOOOO GOOOOD! I don't want it to end. :(

I'm playing through on Medium and it even has its difficult moments.

I hear Hard mode is the way to go but I felt I made a good choice because I wanted to really experience the story and everything and not let the difficulty get in the way.

That's exactly what it is. It undermines what the game sets out to do and it's an insult to the great enemy AI they created.

Hard. I'm playing on normal and it feels just a bit too easy. I play very aggressive, planting a lot of traps and playing very close quartersish. Have had to retry some things a few times but never to the point of frustration. Also, once I got the gun sway upgrade shooting got a lot smoother.

Great game though and very well paced. I might go for the plat

relax, it's not an insult. even if you use listen mode that doesn't guarantee that you'll get out alive. and before you start ranting about how great the developers are, these are the same developers WHO PUT the listen mode in. mrmusicman247
