I know I didn't. 95% metacritic & 3.4 million units shipped in the first 3 weeks. I never thought it would get Uncharted-type numbers.

I did, to be honest. It's a predictable movie, trying to be a game - those almost always sell/review well.

Its by far the best ND game they ever made. I hope their next game isn't rated T or E, i want something brutal like TLOU.

Maybe not in the month of June but there were a lot of good games in the previous month of May. There not being any games as you say is a cheap reason to say TLOU did so well IMO May: Persona 4 Dust 514 Metro Last Light Resident Evil Revelations Fuse Grid 2 June: Remember Me Tekken Revolution Deadpool

I've played it to completion, along with the Uncharted trilogy (plat 1 & 2, didn't finish 3). I just wanted them to try something REALLY new... Instead, we got just another third person shooter with a gritty (predictable) story. Uncharted 2 is still their crowning achievement this gen, in my opinion. Uncharted 3 doesn't need to exist. TLOU should've been more daring.

Just messin a bit but the lack of any real competition for the gamers dollars did help. They should've tried launching TLOU now along side GTA5 like MS launched Alan Wake along side GTA4  Yeah I know, now that was a dumb move. :P

I definitely expected it to do that well. The amount of hype surrounding it and the fact it was ND's good team making it I had no doubts.

Why does the story need to be unpredictable... It was a well executed story that put it's emphasis on relationships and small moments with heavy meaning. Personally I felt there was much more to nitpick in Uncharted 2 than tlou

Maybe I've played too many games, but when I see a plot twist coming, it kinda ruins my enjoyment of the game. If you know what's going to happen at the end of the book, it takes some of the enjoyment out of reading it. I'm not saying it wasn't well executed (although some things could have been improved. No emotional character development really, outside Joel and Ellie (compared to Half Life 2, when you can see/feel the emotion of almost everyone in the game). TLOU is 4 years newer, so perhaps so. If Uncharted 2 were released now, I don't think it would get the same rousing reception. For it's time, it stood out, and I enjoyed it. TLOU didn't stand out as much.

Wrong, its success was predictable, cinematic third person shooter + Naughty Dog + hype = sales, not to mention that its formula was safe as f*ck. I mean, i knew it was gonna sell well the moment it was announced.

But, i really didn't expect it to flop on Gamespot. Now that was a surprise. Lol flop.

Made by a high profile developer with proven track record. Released in June with not much of note around it. Hyped to hell by 90% of the gaming community. Large Promotional campaign Yeah pal I never expected it to stand a chance in hell of being successful.

I expected it to get the same overreaction as Uncharted 2 did and it did. So no I did expect it. :p

Not to get me wrong - great games, both of them, just overrated relatively speaking.

As mentioned above, it was an interactive movie. No, scratch that, it was a movie, with some smattering of interactive bits.

It's the kind of game the mainstream love, so yes, it's going to review well and do decent sales.

I prefer games that, you know, are 90% or better GAMEPLAY, rather than the other way around.  The narrative was excellent though, and the level design complemented the storytelling VERY well. I think it deserves an 7-8. If the gameplay would have been a bit better, and influenced the narrative even just a little bit, and was more than just shooting guys and solving water puzzles, it could have deserved a 10.

It didn't sell 34 million copies. It sold 3.4 million copies.

That's not bad for a new IP. It was hyped so much, I did expect it to sell at least a couple million units. With almost 79 million PS3's out there, it should have easily sold a lot more. Lifetime should be over 5 million.
