I really think that Nightdive is making a huge mistake here. Current Atari is an awful company and I worry that they will screw Nightdive in the future. I understand that they are a small company and they need a bigger company to help them out since game development is very expensive to work on these days, but being owned by Atari just screams trouble.

The founders will likely jump ship after the buyout with fat checks in hand and start a new studio.

Atari wants the System Shock IP solely for its retro catalog, not the developers.

This looks like a good buy for Atari, but I don't think this is a good move for Nightdive. Atari is a shitty partner that will probably hold them back and lead to their demise... or Nightdive will be Atari's saviour. This could also be temporary and Atari is looking to flip the developer. I am not sure, but I am not getting good vibes from this deal.

I’m sure I’ve heard of Nightdive before but I honestly can’t think of any game that they’ve made.

@uninspiredcup: Just following tradition. 😅

I’ll go and Google them to see if anything rings a bell but really just posted a generalized comment meant to indicate my lack of interest in this developer.

@brimmul777: They mostly remaster old games, but do a really good job of it. They make it play as well as your nostalgia goggles remember it. They did the modern ports of Turok, Powerslave: Exhumed, System Shock, Quake, and Doom 64 to name a few.

Maybe I'm crazy, but it would be fun for Atari to release a current console and remake old hits, judge me now haha

Nightdive is the company that is developing the System Shock remake. However they are mostly known to remaster a lot of old games and bring them to modern consoles and PC.
