Many have used the "Just wait till this March, It's only been six months, It's selling the same as the 360, It's selling good for a $600 machine w/ no games, Skyrocket price drop, 2008 will be the year, etc;" But at what point can we officially call the PS3 a failure?

You have to wait till a system seller are ALL the major hits are released before you declare anything.

I buy consoles to play them for 5 years and upwards not 6months dammit :|

When a compant officially pulls out of the "race," they become a failure (see Sega.)

Until that point, nope - nobody will agree that any console is officailly a failure.

That's not true, many consider the Gamecube a failure. Even if the PS3 is highly regarded as a failure, it doesn't mean they can't make a comeback with the PS4.

You have to give them until FFXIII is launched worldwide.

End of 2008, but we should be able to call it well enough by the end of 2007.

But seriously, what if say, after 3 years the PS3 has sold 15 mil - would it be a failure?

what about 30 mil after 5 years?

I think it would take the console being our for a minimum or two years to determine that. Maybe even three for the PS3 if they still plan on supporting it for 10 years. If we judged the original Xbox by the first 6 months there never should have been a 360. But it took a couple years for the Xbox to really get people's attention and hit it's stride.

But really, does the PS3 need to get anybody's attention? Has any successful gaming system ever sold so poorly on a regular basis 6 monthsafter release?
