@SecretPolice: @papatrop: I don't think 5000 people reflect the entirety of the gaming population either, but it's interesting to see all those yearly retreads still selling bank. Do we just not crave anything new and fresh?

That's not what I mean though.

I just assume that those 5000 gamers are not all PC/WiiU/Xbox/PS4/Vita/3DS gamers. They are probably 1 of the 6, or maybe 2, yet there is no distinction like that made in the survey.

The PC side looks heavily influenced by non-PC gamers simply listing what may be popular on their own system. I don't doubt Sims 4 is the highest-selling retail game on PC this year, but how did AC:U, CoD:AW, Fifa, Far Cry 4, and NBA 2K15 make it above Civilization Beyond Earth which has been a top selling game since it was available for preorder weeks/months ago?

Tops PS4 picks are Destiny, COD, Madden, GTA V, Far Cry 4... how does Xbox get a stigma for being so "dude bro"?

I'm still happy with the new consoles minus WiiU. I enjoy playing the newest games and having the latest hardware.

Why should people want Bayonetta 2 more than any other Wii U game? Because it's receiving high scores from reviewers? I guess that means public demand should align itself with opinions of the gaming media. Bad idea.

First thought was, "Nielsen is dealing with gamers now? Great..."

Second thought was, yeah that list is probably bound to be shit, but that's because it should survey a wide market. You'll get hardcore gamers in there, but you should also get a couple families who game and stuff like that. So I could see that being why something like Bayonetta 2 would be at the bottom. At least it's on the list. :P

EDIT: After looking at this graphic more, I did find it interesting how Call of Duty is at the top for Xbox One while Destiny is at the top for PS4. The top two spots for both competing consoles are merely swapped around, basically geared towards how Microsoft and Sony have both pushed the two games on their respective consoles. Kind of cool, I guess.

from my experience in working at gamestop (yes i know i work for the darkside lol) nintendo gamers are really young kids mixed in with the occasional old school gamer so i can understand why those games would be more wanted. Hell, bayonetta didnt sell all that well despite being on the ps3/360

well not everyone has 20-30 years of gaming under their belt. There are a lot of kids /teens that only grew up with a ps3/360 or maybe the tail end of the ps2 era. remember how flooded the market was of 2d platformers / action platformers when we were kids.to them, these games are still fresh

Adults probably make up the majority of the market, but i think the factor is that these adults tastes and schedules have changed. A gamer that was 15 could handle playing 20-30 games in a year, could only be down to 10 in college and now as an adult can only finish 1 or 2 games per year. These guys might just buy or play the biggest and most popular game since their time and attention span has changed. I know a lot of my friends changed over time and now only play gta /cod /ac / madden games and thats it.

@Bigboi500: the game is being almost universally praised... I root for good games. It's an exclusive, by all accounts a landmark game in the genre and it's a third part caters to the core.

And it's getting walloped by WatchDogz and Sonic boom on this poll.

It has nothing to do with journalists, I just want to see this game succeed so Nintendo has a reason to want to continue investing In quality third party exclusive games.

grand theft auto 5's not in the pc list, that's great. the list is acceptable to me.

It's just Persona 5 and Persona Q, not Shin Megami Tensei Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei Persona Q.

Looks like a fair approximation of what the mass market gamers will be wanting.

Sadly, it wont succeed commercially. The only third party exclusives Nintendo will ever have are of the Japanese variety. Western developers have never been interested in having their games on Nintendo systems and that'll probably never change, regardless of whether their systems are successful (Wii) or trailing behind (Wii U).

When it's going on my shelf it will be alphabetized along with the SMT games .
