Because this is in no way way shape or form up to par with the quality GG produced presentation wise or gameplay wise
ER seems like a good game in its own right but lets be reasonable here
Reasonably, HFW may be a great game, but Elden Ring is undeniably better, even across genres. Elden Ring is overshadowing every game at the moment. Will be for the entire year and generation.

I know that this may be a difficult thing for some people to grasp these days but it’s perfectly normal for different people to enjoy different things to different degrees.
@Pedro: It does baffle me how some people keep failing to grasp the simple things.
@cainetao11: I sometimes feel like I have when reading some posts here. 😅
@X_CAPCOM_X: Disagree. Gamer experience is not living up to the hype, and the pc player meta was around 59 last I checked. You could make an argument that console meta scores can be dismissed…because fanboys…but pc meta is somewhat immune to it.
Personal taste is exactly that, and while some love the game, there’s many who just can’t get into it. Me included which is why I played it a while, hated it and asked for a refund.

No! It is not undeniably better, it is subjectively better and subjectively worse.
It is objectively inferior looking than HFW.

People are free to have opinions. I wouldn't be bothered by it.
Copium thread. Clearly, most critics and gamers rate Elden Ring more highly than HFW.
Horizon is a good series in its own right, but is a victim of bad timing. Horizon 1 got overshadowed by BOTW, and now Horizon 2 overshadowed by ER. Pretty dumb move for Sony to release Horizon right before a Zelda and then FromSoft game. Still, HFW should sell well like the first game.
Who da hell cares?! They're different games that aim at different things. It wont be arbitral scores that will claim one is better than the other. Only small minded people think as black and white as that
Just enjoy the games as they are. Everything else is irrelevant
It seems the type of consumer who praise these Souls games have a very large voice in certain corners of the internet so as a result it comes off like the market for them aren’t niche. Which is fine.
The animations and overworld objectively are a bit outdated, but it seems to have a nostalgic factor for some
I'm pretty sure they're serious. I myself prefer Horizon Forbidden West but I can see why it's so hyped rn. It has better scores and Fromsoft have a really loyal fan base. Souls games aren't really my thing but I can definitely see the appeal in Elden Ring. I kind of want to pick it up myself just because it's written by George R. R. Martin. I've been reading his books since I was a kid, long before Game of Thrones even had a show.

That part I disagree with... we are early in the generation and games generally look and perform better as the generation goes
I can't really compare the two but, I can say for a fact that Elden Ring reviews have all seemed to have been done from the perspective of Souls-fans and not newcomers with an objective viewpoint. Ex. Performance is all over the place, it lacks accessibility and approachability for newcomers etc. It's probably the only GOAT tier game that I wouldn't recommend to all gamers.
Great question. Is there a single person who seriously thinks a game with 97 MC is better than 89? I guess there's no way of knowing it.
@tjandmia: yes..and the funny thing is that Horizon is always on the receiving end of the stick. First with botw and now with this elden ring. Gorilla games just can't get a break.
Just do some mental gymnastics like I do when a game scores a 10 and say that, because it is a 10, it is a game that is tame, inoffensive, and appeals to the lowest common denominators.
A 10 takes no risks, as Elden Ring doesn't; it's an open-world Dark Souls. People like open world. Dark Souls has always sold well. Where's the risk, the innovation? It's none of that, it's simply the logical conclusion of where the game was going.
By being a 10, it declares itself a mundane game.
Quality? Sure. But greatness? Nay!
In fact, a 10 is an indicator that the game is actually bad! YES! TRULY, I DECLARE!
...
...or you could just accept that opinions differ.
I'm really enjoying both ER and HFW on my PS5, which runs both games perfectly. Sure, most critics rate ER higher than HFW and I agree with them, but HFW is also a great game with very high standards of visual and gameplay quality. Eitherway, what a great time to be a gamer.
@regnaston: the game is already beat in graphics and performance. The ambitions the developers had were accomplished and exceeded with Elden Ring in a way that raises the bar so much, that every game in this genre (and outside) will be compared to Elden Ring for the entire generation. Every AAA title will be made in it's shadow.
I don't want to read the comments for fear of spoilers, but I have both games and have stuck with Forbidden West. It's a stunning game, absolutely gorgeous with an amazing amount of detail. Elden Ring isn't even close. Gameplay wise, I find Forbidden West more approachable and fun whereas Elden Ring I'm cautious and afraid to die lol. Forbidden West combat is a thrill; taking town a huge machine is really satisfying. I've gotten only an hour and a half into Elden Ring and I'm sure it will get good, have no doubt. But right now Forbidden West is my jam! Oh, and Elden Ring's performance is really noticeable and I'm surprised that didn't impact scores. I've been playing Forbidden West in resolution mode and it's 99% stable.
@x_hedon: the game is being held back by 9tflops. It's a shame its missing the power of 12tflops and features of the xbox like vrr and vrs.
See people make shit up, ER is on par a technical mess like cyberpunk. Just a free pass for a mess of game, be 5/10 in my book for such shit performance.
Hm for me personally I enjoy both games.
I don't see a reason to pick over the other. Both offer great action/adventure rpg gameplay.
People here probably call me a Sony fanboy and let me tell you there is absolutely nothing HFW does better than Elden Ring except graphics.
